Doing some research for a restoration on an 81.  I have my body shop selected (fingers crossed it comes out nice), Coin Mech guy (guess who) and thats about it.  I still need to find my chrome/Zinc plater,  powder coater, etc.  It seems parts are for the most part supplied by FunTronics and SJW so no issues with that, but there are a couple items that I'm not sure about.

The stainless trim band on the 81.  It looks like some restorations have used the body shop to straighten/polish this part and others have used their chrome shop for this task.  My body shop is more of a "custom shop".  No collision work.  Just a lot of Bikes, Street Rods, custom paint etc.  I could take it to him and hope for the best, but I doubt he has ever done one.

What do you guys recommend?  Is it easy enough to have a any good body guy fix it, or is it best in the hands of a specialty shop.   Thanks!

I know Moondawg (Glen) has a great polisher who both takes out the dings and makes it look like chrome. Don't know what he charges. The item is small enough to mail to CA.

Thanks!

I send my trim off to a classic Car restoration place in Southern WI. www.VINTAGEVEHICLES.com  (plug)

It's amazing what they can do .. I have sent them stuff flattened and it comes back like new!...

Good luck!
