Well I know Joey start to show a start to finish projected  but ran in to some problem.
So I'm going to go though a Vendo  V90ss   start to finish  and maybe this can be used for some of the newbie's

Ok well start to take it apart helpful hint Zip lock bags and a sharpie to put the screws in and small parts.
 Well first picture is the marquee there is a screw on the inside main door that hold the marquee in on this side and the two pins on the marquee box (photo 2)  then the inside
of the machine showing were the pins go into.

Then I took off the coin entry bezel  4 screw hold this again one on the main inside door
(picture2) the zip lock bag.
Then moved onto the coin door, Start with the bottom screw first  that way the door wont drop and hit the floor

Then I moved onto the grill ,Now sometimes every thing come out fine and other times
you have to take a drill to it to remove a screw that is rusted in. 
Then I Moved onto the back side to remove the liner ,There are clips behind the rubber gasket now I like using a small blade screw driver to remove those clips, start at the bottom and work to the top those liners are old and will break easy.
 Then I pealed out the old insulation and put it into a trash bag.
I also scraped off that old tar and then took a little paint thinner to remove the rest of the tar.

Then I moved onto the bottle door to remove it from the machine , Again start at the bottom, this one you don't want hitting the floor . (all that glass)

Then the rubber gasket was removed the screws are behind that which also unbolts
the bottle door light kit and I also marked the wiring for top and bottom .

And a shot of the work that was done tonight on the V90.
Then I did some glass beading on some parts that are going to Nashville Plating
to be nickel plated that is what I like to do , You could paint them also.
A few extra bottle openers  for the collection.

Now if some of the older members think I missed something please jump in and ask or say something. :smile:.
I'm doing this so those new members and new to the hobbie have something that they can go to :smile:.

My first project is going to be  my cav cs-96 and this vendo looks similar so I am doubly  interested in watching your restoration!

Pat, how do you like your V90? I didn't know that you were a square top collector.

Hey There Bob,  Yes I am a Sq Top machine guy   I just like them alot better.

Ok Here is just a little quick projected that I did Thursday night before heading north for the weekend.  The Coin Bezel & you
I did break it down but I will show you putting it back together again.
I took some steal wool and went over the galvanized metal to paint it  slate grey

Painted the inside of the correct change light cover with chrome paint and the out side with
slate grey, and the backing plate for the coin shoot was also painted grey

Now the reassembly of the coin bezel.
 the lens was in good shape I just washed it with some warm water to get years of dirt off.
Note ( be very careful with those lens because sometime the paint will flake off because of years of light bulb heat) also cleaned up the back plate it was in good shape it did not have to be rechromed

putting the backing plate back on and the coin return leverback in. ( I  have a extra lever
that is going to be rechromed , that will be changed for final assemby ) put the spring back in
and the spacer back in

With the spring and spacer back in next the coin return bar
and then the correct  change light cover was put back on.

Tonight I pulled the compressor and that is about it before the mosquitoes almost carried me
away.

  Cleaning up the bolt that holds the compressor in place after working on it it still snapped
off.  Then I unscrewed the evaperator there was 4 screw on mine sometimes there is 5 or 6
 4 on the back and two on the bottom. then I pulled the line and electricial line protector.

and then I disconnected the electrical at the plug and then unhooked the electrical
at the rack  again tagging the wires with tape  and marking  where they go.
 Also make sure you get all the screws this was up and under to hold the wires up,
So before you pull the compressor take a look to make sure every thing is disconnected.

Now it is time to pull the compressor, It will go on a compressor stand tomorrow
 so that it can get new fan motors  and a Tstat and then cleaned up and painted.
A look at the tank with all that crap in it broken glass and dirt and stuff
got two spots that have to be brassed up and a new copper drain tube will be put in.

Ok Tonight we will take the Trim off the main door and remove the door then we will remove
the tank.

 First photo is the trim I like a thin blade screw driver to bemove the stainless trim
I look for a small gap then slide my screw driver in till I find the first clip  and sticking my
screw driver in the clip and prying out ward  till it pops .( be real careful not to bend the trim)
Then I moved onto the panel that goes around the bottle door there are 12 screws top and
bottom and sides

Ok the Next thing we did was to remove the main door I took the bolts off the main hinge
at the top then just lifted the door up and off . then it was time to remove the bottle rack again I like to start from the the bottom and work up that way the top screw is holding all the weight.

Then it was time to remove the main door latch (going to nickel plate) and pull the tank,
There are  screws holding the tank in removing those and I like starting from the bottom and
slowly working it out going from the bottom to the top and doing the same thing just little tugs.

Now we are down to a shell ( almost)  did a little poking around the bottom and found a hole :oops:  So a new panel will have to be made and put in  :glare:.

Ok here is the machine without the insulation and a look at the bottom to many hole's
going to have to get some new metal put in there, Just talked to my source on soda blasting
may happen next week and there will be photos.

and I will be taking every thing to get soda blasted, this place has a big blaster that can handle this they also do vintage cars.

 Anyways breaking down the bottle door . I removed the eight screws four on each side to get the glass out.  Then I removed the handle & two screws for that, and that will be going in to be chromed.

And a note to Jim and you other guys I can not open up page two on this post
to make any corrections so Jim I  hope you read this. :Oo:.

Ok, Back to Project V90... Today was Soda blasting day, I took the V90 over to my friends at
Service Master  In Mason MI .
 And thank's to Buddy (he runs the soda blasting crew ,He the one in the red shirt) for bringing the deep fried frog legs and cokes for lunch. :tounge:.

I Stayed for a little bit but had a meeting I had to be back for, so I left the guy to finish . and I picked it up tonight .

  And as you can see I had some belt line rust that went through so that will have to be taken care of :Oo:.

Glad you are back to this post pat! I was starting to feel like my favorite tv show had been canceled in mid season...

Well I had to work with My Friends over at Service Master this was on there time,
 I was planning on Sand blasting the rust areas today , but the weather is not cooperating
with me today or tomorrow or  even Monday RAIN !!!

 But I may plan on doing the compressor just to keep things fresh.

I hope I didn't sound like I was complaining, I was learning alot from your thread and am glad to see it back in action is all.

No I know it been a little bit between post just have to wait to work with the right people
 that all .

What does having a cabinet soda blasted like that cost (ballpark)?

Well today in between the rain drops, I was able to take the cabinet to my sheet metel guy to have
a new pan made going to pick it up Tuesday .

 As far as the cost of  soda blasting you may want to check around . :smile:

Tonight I started the compressor , I can't sand blast tonight so I will be doing that  Saturday
So it was taking the compressor apart. I like to stick the compressor over the edge so I can get
to the bolts on the bottom.

Unbolting the fan and unhooking the wiring (No picture of that ) sorry forgot to turn the flash on :oops:.

The Electrical box was cracked ,so this will be replaced with a new one.

Getting the compressor deck out and getting the scaly rust off with the wire brush so then saturday
I can sand blast.

Back at it kinda, Picked up my V90 Saturday  from my sheet metal guy he put a new pan into the
bottom (see attached photos) I sprayed it with spray on truck bed liner and the very bottom
was also sprayed. the reason for the spray in bed liner paint to help protected when puting the
compressor back in .

And got some work done on the compressor  have the bottom part all most done.

A freshly painted V90  setting down at the body shop  and by Friday it will be home :biggrin:.

and the compressor is painted and rewired and new fan motors  but I did not change out the T stat
this one is working fine for now ( I know famous last words  :hopefull:) I could not take it so i cleaned up
 the Tstat. now it look better.

Ok did not get the machine home tonight  the Body shop owner want to get it wet sanded out
and polished but ran out of time , so he was going to jump on it this weekend  then Tuesday it will come home.
 Did bring home some parts Bottle door and other small parts. :smile:

Happy days are here again I can start to work on my coke machine again  happy days are here again :biggrin:

Insulation was put in  R19 , Then it was time to install the tank ( see tutorial & Tips it is under liner installation)
 one thing I did was lay cardboard and then a blanket down  then I put the V90 down on it back and used card board on the sides and dropped the tank right in.
 And the Tank was sprayed with hammer tone  silver.

Dec.  the person is booked up till Dec. maybe even Jan. no rush it is not going any where

well a little work was done on the V90 tonight  new drain tube and then putting the compressor in
and then the bracets for the shelves  with all new stainless steel screws.

and a little work was done on the front door last night.

That's looking really sharp, Pat! It gives me inspiration for my beater V90! BTW, I took a few pic's of the compressor flipped around and will upload them tonight when I get home from work/church.

You gotta promise not to laugh though!!! It ain't pretty right now, just a work in progress.  :biggrin:

I have the first CS-64 that I bought 25 years ago. I think I might have to duplicate your efforts on my machine and go ahead and restore it.

Thanks Guys Been working on the Rack tonight , getting that taken apart and ready for paint.

The Bottle Rack .
Took it apart  painted the armature .
You don't want to loss the spring or this clip

Cleaned up everything  and did white Greese on the pins for the armatures.

I saw the X-clips at ACE hardware the other day.
I have some extra springs if somebody ever needs some - not sure if they are from a different model though like V-81 vs V-110

Parts all painted and starting to put the rack back together

the Rack is put together and then installed into the V90

Well it has been a long time  kind of been poking around the old 90 , Got my Chrome from
Nashville Plating today , so it was time to do some work on her.

Got the main door on had to sand down the pin on the upper pin which is chromed.

It's looking really nice. Won't be long now and you'll be finished.

What I have left is  the lighting & and get some stuff off to Nashville plating for nickel plating
 and the art work for the sides.

Creighton ,These are the parts that are going to head to Nashville Plating  for nickel plating,
Except the line cover and the middle bottle opener  Those have been chromed :biggrin:,
Now everything has been Glass beaded so it is ready to go.

 My Little Dr Pepper SV that I did I had a lot of nickel plating in that and that looked
so good  , boy I do miss that machine :smile:.

I can't remember who said chroming parts that didn't come from the facotry that way is a sign the machine was not professionally restored

Well tonight I played with the electrical and wired up the NEW LED
light strip 16",  looks great with the ribbed glass,  going to do the marquee next                                             week Menards ran out of the 10" LED light strip's  :smile:.

LED strip light.  Good idea Pat and very green!  Maybe Obama will get you a tax break for saving the environment!  :biggrin:  You won't have to change that light out for a long time.

Can you put a few beers in that machine for the BBQ???

I need to pick up a smaller LED strip  for the marquee  and get that wired in .

Vmc81 , I'm not sure right now if I'm going to keep it or not .  :smile:

The main Marquee was set up tonight  with a 12" LED strip light  I will show pictures
a little later of how that went together.

The inside of the marquee light  pop riveted the clips on that hold the strip light
and this is what it looks like :smile:.

 Got the Nickel plating back today from Nashville plating today
here are some picture of some  on the thing that I had Nickel plated :smile:.

Also had the lock bar nickel plated .
What left is the art work for the sides and then haul it up and out of the basement  :wow:

I thought i would add that the door does seal up tight  which is a plus

Looks good ! Say, what's the difference between chrome plating and nickel plating ?

About  $80  :tounge:

both chrome and nickel plating use the same process, cleaning, copper base coat, copper polish, then a nickel top coat that is polished, but then chrome plating adds a thin layer of hard-chrome over the nickel which is polished again..

nickel plating if exposed to modern outside air, it can tarnish to a warmer "yellowish" or a "millky" silver color, mostly due to the sulfurdioxide found in polluted air.  Most pre WW_II cars used nickel plating on their bumpers & trim, this tarnishing was "cured" by the development of cheaper chrome plating methods, from then on, chrome was king.

on soda & vending machines & other applications where the project isn't likley to be exposed to the elements, nickel plating looks very nice & shiney, & it is cheaper than chrome.

based on my experience, nickel  plating will eventuually tarnish, epxosed to modern outisde air or not.  How many crank handles have you seen from a vendo that has that tarnishedl look.
Eventually may be 40 -60 years.

I never paid much attention to this thread as I have never really liked square tops, but just read it from start to finsih and WOW.. it looks great!.. I may just yet do up a square top for me someday... I like the nickel plating as well... very sharp!

  For the Led Light strips I Bought those at a Big box store (Menards)

Pat,

You never poster final, final finished pictures of the V-90.  Ya know--the ones with all the beer where the Coke should be!  This thread will be a valuable tool for the SMC members for years to come!
