There are a couple of these close to home. what is the going price for one of these. Is $700-$900 out of line. I would be able to pick up. Found a Vendo 81  7 months ago for $0 and I have the fever. Steve

The 39 is my first machine, so I am a bit biased  when it comes to  opinions on them.
Keep in mind  it will only vend the small ( now 8 oz coke bottles) and only one flavor at a time.  For some  people this is a  negative, but hey, you have an 81. To me nothing says 1950's like a V39

The machine looks very clean and straight.  I'm assuming the splotches  near the bottom  is dirt, and not a sign of bigger issues.    It has the coin mech, the drum, even the bottle cap catcher and   coin box, and the   inside lables  look to be all intact.
If it were closer, I'd jump on it in a hearbeat.

Unless it has the later style drum in it!

The original one that you posted about looks like the cleaner unit of the two.  It is also complete even down to the ventilation cover on the back of the machine.  That part is usually missing.  That second one has a lot of rust in the bottom of the tub so you could have a problem there.  A V-39 was my second machine and I like the machine even though it has some limitations.  Of couse, as Tom pointed out you can always buy the repop drum that will allow you to vend 12oz. bottles.

Those are both getting at the high end of what I would pay as I have seen others locally for less.  Still of the two--I would go after the first one!

The repop drum is modeled after an original, so there are vintage 12oz capable drums. They are usually found in late model 39's, but I have seen them in the early 39 occasionally.

The high bidder pulled his bid, claiming he couldn't get in touch with the seller.
If you want it, go for it. In the end your opinion is the only one that matters.

I looked at Bid history. Why you csan no longer see the bidder names,  it shows the bid, date,  amount, etc. scroll down the page and it lioisted the retracted bids.

Disclaimer: I  in no way was involved or had a vested interest in said auction.

If I were going to be buying a nice original like that, I would want clearer pics of the machine. I'd also ask for more pics of the inside - are the decals still on the liner? and pics of the compressor area too.

It does look like a nice original, as far as price, I think he is the range right now.. originals are only original once and would not need much work.
I'd clean up the insides, polish and wax the exterior, and would most likely redo the compressor, but not bad.
I sold one similiar to this condition for 1300 last summer..
Good luck!
