Title: Vendo 56 Square Top with Manual Coin Mech
Post by: Jonathan816 on November 21, 2012, 05:00:39 pm
Before I start blasting this thing down this weekend, I'm wondering if there isn't any reason I should.

Wonderful coin mech -  works like a charm.

What are these?  Is this foam inserts to prevent the unit from overflowing water on to the floor when the condenser is running?

Could this be converted to cans?  And or cans/bottles combination?

The foamy things in the drip pan are are evaporation pads that wick away the condensation water& evaporate it into the air as it's blown on by the condenser fan..

you have some serious belt line rust out going on here, but it can be repaired, don't be surprised that once you pull the inside bottle tank, that the floor below it is rusted out...this was cause by a plugged drain hole/hose flooding the floor in the tank & "wetting the bed" (insulation below) & rusting it from the inside out, they used very little primer on the inside of these machines.

Thanks - I appreciate it.  I was thinking for now doing an exterior restore and once I move in a year or two worry about the inside.

Also thinking about taking peoples advice and try to replace it with a glass door instead.

For those of you who wish to know the lingo regarding "belt-line-rust"  (or belt-line rot) ...

If you want you can remove the tin overlay on the coin door and the bottom area, I had a machine similar to this in the past and removed the tin and painted and it looked great with some paint.

Before I start blasting this thing down this weekend, I'm wondering if there isn't any reason I should.

Wonderful coin mech -  works like a charm.

If you were only closer I would trade you 2 of the nicest complete rustfree squarecorner machines I have.......just for that coin mech. It is badly needed in someones round corner machine.
If you are asking for professional advice, I would advise you to pull the compressor, coin mech, bottlestack and shelves as well as the Pepsi sign and consider yourself way ahead of this game. The rest of that box is just too common to sink a lot of time and money into. If you restore it you will only realize it is a mistake when it is too late.

Very good advise Glen.  I have made similar mistakes and paid for them.  Do the signs of that type really have some value?  I have one that was tacked onto an Ideal 35 in great if someone is interested make offer.

PM for pics.

Great find Jonathan!  I would of been all over that one if it was in my area.

I hate to admit it, but I agree that it would be a good part out machine with how much work it needs. I'm assuming you are not putting all of that effort into a Chevette, but well worth it in a Corvette.

Washington State ( Eastern) 3 hours from Seattle.

Going to blast that belt tomorrow and see how it looks.   If I punch a whole in it, may just part it out depending what the machine shop my family use to own could do with the metal.

Strip it, Sell everything off and buy something more desirable with the money you get from parting it out. You will be way better off and way ahead, I wouldnt stick a dollar in one of those machines, I have parted out a ton of them and have no regrets.

You need to find one of those round top Vendo 56's that is missing parts and has a ton of beltline rust.

I am going to see what the metal guy says about replacing the 2 pieces of metal.. I can do the bondo... and the paint

front door, side, rusted around the belt, but all else appears solid
(http://i1051.photobucket.com/albums/s438/Jonathan816/morerust.jpg)
shot from inside down towards the pan the inside unit was on.  rusted as all hell.. needs to go get metal work for this and the last picture

nothing some bondo can't fix
(http://i1051.photobucket.com/albums/s438/Jonathan816/leftsideblasted.jpg)
probably weld some supports just to reinforce the back in addition to bondo.

I hate to say it but I think you better off looking for another cabinet. If you are partial to the Square 56's they are a dime a dozen.

On the other hand, it's worth it's weight in experience for when you get another more valuable machine down the road.

Wrong!  You have seen many people ASKING for $350.00 or so.

When these machines eventually do change hands, you will find that most of the guys here end up paying less than $100.00 each.

32.50 here at auction...lol
50.00 for a choice vend 168 that's never seen the weather...but it came from my g/f's cousin and he wanted it gone.  Does anyone have a vend solenoid for a Choice Vend by any chance?

Its one that's under the stack (there's one for each selection...I have one that's bad and wont work when selecting it)

Post a picture of your solenoid, it will help people know what you're looking for, they may one stuffed in a box on a shelf & pictures really help...
