i just scooped up a vendo v-148 machine about a week ago for $75, also included an extra coin mech, the coin mech in it was a variprice coin mech and highest price i could get it to go is 50cents so i swapped out the other coin mech which is a coin acceptor i believe and it will go to 75 cents which is what i'm looking for. now after trying BOTH mechs, the machine is STILL stuck on free vend, i thought it was the variprice mech but apparently its not, any help? now you got questions and i hope i can answer them all.

yes the coinmech does work, both of them were working, i could hear and saw the motors work when correct change was inserted, so i assume i got something rigged somewhere but i can't detect it.

yes, when you push any of the 4 selections it will vend that selection and only 1 can will vend unless you hit the selection again. the free vend is a good idea, but not when i'm trying to charge money ;-)

if theres anything else please let me know, i can take pictures just let me know what i need to take pictures of and i'll do so and post them.

thanks for your time and reading all of this rant, i hope someone can help me.

just a little update if anyone is still interested,

when the coinmech is plugged into the machine and the machine is first plugged in the coinmech buzzes and requires 75cents in order to vend. once the correct amount is added it will let me vend my soda of purchase, after that its stuck on free play, no more money is required, and when i push one of the buttons the red (relay) box inside of the tin box sparks up a ton and buzzes a little bit. i checked the wires out on the inside and only 1 wire isn't connected its the j10a wire. if anyone can help me please email me secretseven@kc.rr.com i'm up for suggestions.

i'm trying to get it off free play

its a Vendo V-148 Can Vendor.

i have pictures, and can take pictures of anything you want me to, just bare with me because i AM very new at this and i want this machine working to my liking so i can restore it. thanks in advance  '<img'>

Mike - first of all I have no experience with you r machine at all... but pictures always help.  Not many of us play with the newer machines that support a vari-price coin mech.  I think there is a manual for a couple different vendo vari-price coin mechs in the literature section.  They may help you determine if the mech is supposed to do anything after the vend is triggered (maybe it's not receiving some kind of reset?)

Many people jimmy the release mechanism on machines to lock it open (ie free vend).  You may want to try and track the release mechanism back from the stack and see if you can see any tie-locks or clips that have been added.  Something that would get in the way of the machine electrically reseting itself after a vend.  One of my machines has a small micro switch that lights up when a vend is triggered.  When the bottle is selected the mechanical mechanism resets the switch and that allows the mech to vend againl.

also the current coinmech i'm using is a NRI coin mech and it seems to perform better than the variprice plus it will go to 75 cents. but no matter which mech i use it still gets stuck on freeplay after the first purchase vend. i checked all the switches inside and out of the pop machine and they're all free and functional thats why i think i have some wiring issues. all the wires on the inside are correct to the diagram on the inside of the popmachine.

if anyone can help or as suggestions(other than me giving up) please fire at will. thanks!

by the way, in the pics above, the pics were taken as if you were looking directly into the tinbox. ie bottom is bottom   '<img'>

ok, so a little update here.

i think i figured out through a little help that the switch at the bottom of the machine that triggers the motor wasn't staying open long enough to "reset" the vend. its the motor that brings the tray up to release the can.

so while i was messing with this i thought i burnt the motor out cause it stopped working, i couldn't figure out what i did, so i took the motor out and it seemed to be working fine, then i put everything back together, but now i seemed to have ran into another problem, now i fixed it to where the motor rotates enough but now when i select a soda, the lever with the gear on it switches over than back again, its like the solenoid isn't holding the lever open. or maybe that switch i messed with for the motor clicks on and clicks off real quick so the solenoid releases cause it thinks it already vended?

i'm still learning ;-)

Hey Mike,

Does your machine look something like the one listed in our Soda Machines Section under Vendo --> V-148 Can
I just looked to see if I had a manual that included the V-148 and unfortunately, I don't have one; however, tomorrow I can look to see if one resembles yours and see what I can find out about trouble shooting... Or see if there something about the vending cycle, etc...

Mike,

Unfortunately, I don't have a manual that covers something like your model; my Vendo literature predates this model...
From what you have described, it does sound like an alignment/timimg issue...
Without seeing/knowing this model or having the service manual, it's very difficult to diagnose. Hopefully, someone may have experience with a similar vending cycle on another machine...

well now i guess i screwed up the timing, i was messing with the switch that pushes the bar up to vend the can, and i realized it wasn't getting a full rotation, but now every time i put in money and press the button it acts like it wants to vend, but the solenoid releases and it doesn't vend :-( any help?

i had the same problem and had to time mine the gears have letters on them and they have to be all lined up in the correct order i just had to play with mine until i got it to work at one point in time i had it so when you pushed the selector button it would dispense every can in that row. but what i am trying to figure out is how to make mine vend for free as it is a beer fridge in my garage if you have any info please let me know. I do live i kc as well thanks

you'd have to short out the normally-open vending/credit relay contacts, but disconnect the relays power coil wire & tape it up. this should allow the power to the selection buttons to be on 24/7 without burning out the relay coil itself, BUT it will disable the coinmech. plus your reply is to a post from back in 2007... Cool
