Title: Wiring ballast-81D
Post by: USMC Vet on May 20, 2007, 01:17:10 pm
I am trying to get my light to work. I have it all wired up. New ballast from Funtronics, old switch and old bulb. I have the casing that the ballast mounts to not mounted inside the door. I push and hold the switch the ends of the bulb will light up,but not the whole bulb. If I push the switch real fast the bulb will light up for a second but will not stay lit. Could it be the way I wired it,bad bulb, bad switch( I have one ordered, on BO from Funtronics. Thanks! Can post picture if needed. Can the switch be bought locally or at a hardware store?

I think it's the bulb that is going bad.

You are exactly right Glen,I went and got a new bulb and it fired right up. While I was at Ace Hardware I got a new switch. Works good now. Now my current problem I 'm not happy about is the fit of my door liner. The holes do not line up worth a darn. You slide the liner so the holes are perfect at the top and then the holes around the bottle door and bottom are way off,it's like the liner is too short. Guess I will have to send back and try Soda Jerk works for fit. What do you guys recommend?     Thanks Glen and the rest of you guys  !!!!

I just installed a new liner yesterday on a 81B. Try using an Ahl (ice pick like tool). I use one to "adjust the hole slightly on the liner. Just insert it through the liner and into the screw hole. Apply a little pressure to in the direction where needed. This works for me. ???

You can send the liners back all you want... none will line up correct.  :darn:
Solution :  first install the screws loosely around the bottle door. Then compromise, and like Terry said.......either hog the holes
in the liner or if holes are not close enough, drill new ones!

Next step.....installing gasket, you know where to turn for tips! :drinking:

I guess that is what I will have to do with the liner. I imagine you guys want your stuff to look right and strive for perfection on your restorations. I guess it's one of those things we can't do anything about. Thanks for letting me know the inside scoop on the fit of the door liners.      Now when I do install the liner I want to put the main door gasket on when I install the liner , right?    Thanks !       Tony

Gasket installs between liner and door. Start at bottom and
pull tight....align gasket evenly with outer edge of door.
Use heat gun or hair dryer on top round corners to avoid gasket from buckling.
