The Lyon 500 was sold at auction this morning in Dana,IN for $1525.People just told me they would trade me a V56,81,ETC;That don't tell me anything.Did not want to trade anyway.Any offers now,no trades.Machine is worth more than any V81,56,Of course somebody would trade me a round top for it,better make it 3 round tops.Somebody always wanting a DEAL,so they can line their pocket.

Maybe I am the only one who is confused.?.?
Did you buy it, or was it sold to someone else?
I don't think anyone really had a good idea what it was worth, because they had never really encountered one before.

Well, I put in there to call me, with my phone number.  I would have made an offer, but the phone didnt ring...

I'd pay $2000 for it.  I already have one, but it isnt in as good of shape.

Assuming everyone is out to line their pockets is not always the case.  There are some people out there that pay fair prices and sell things for fair prices - and many of those people are part of this message board.

Sincerely,
Tom

Think $ 4,000 would line quite a few of your pockets very nicely.

Thats what it is worth,is it not? $2000 will not touch it.People are paying $1500+for unrestored V56's,V81's,etc;And those are not near as rare as this.Guess I'll have to think about putting it on ebay.It will bring $3000+,not a doubt in my mind. You guys know what its worth, nobody wants to give a price, cause they want it for alot less than its worth.Time is money and this is America, land of the free, because of alot of veterans including myself.

One sure way to determine the value...

Put it on eBay and start it at $1.00 without a reserve.  What is brings is what it is worth.  It is only worth what someone will pay for it.

Let me know the item number if you decide to list it...

By the way, V-81's bring around $1400-1800 on ebay, and 56's might hit $2000 if they are lucky.

Remember you asked us "how much is it worth"?  No one knew, but we offered what we thought we could afford : trade an 81 /56 etc. worth $1500.
It seems that is exactly what it is worth if you had to bid that high to get it..         Sorry if WE offended YOU.

Now that would be silly to put it on ebay for $1.00 with no reserve? That way you could get for less(possibly) than what I paid for it.Bidding will start at $2000.00.

I have a 1931 Glascock Coin Operated Machine that has a rarity of 5+ as well - from what I know 6 complete ones are known to exist - I cant get $2500 for it - reagardless of how hard I try.

Rarity only means something to a museum, not most collectors.  Most collectors want a machine that is easy to use, has a variety of flavors to offer, holds bottles including long necks - gosh, sounds like an 81 or 56...

Tom

P.S.  I have a lot of rounded corner machines that I would love to get $750 for...

Wow

Angry man or what??? From all the posts I read people were upfront with you from the start. The only person who had aything to hide was you. Why didn't you approach the topic with... There's this machine I might be lucky enough to buy what do you think I should offer??? Yu could have still protected the identity or location of the thing without being as sneeky as you were.

Perhaps I'm a bit wet behind the ears but here's hoping you're stuck with it and can't shift it for the money you laid out. Hang on a minute. This is by far the fairest and friendliest forum I have ever been part of so I'm not going to lower it to the level of others. I hope you get lots of money for it and live happy ever after. Happy New Year and good luck with your new toy.

What the  '<img'>  Everyone was psyched earlier this week with the Lyons and the VMC 81 7up..now everyone is up in arms...what triggered this?  Again...no one really knew what the Lyons was worth....glad you got it for 1500 and change, it is definitely a rare and cool machine.  If you plan to flip it, I hope it sells well...but this particular post seems to have triggered some hostility and personal attacks...I would hope we could avoid the flames...."Ca...ca...can't we just all get along?"  Rodney King circa 1992.

I usually don't get involved in pissing matches, but this is rediculous. I've only been on this site for a month, and it is by far the best, most helpful site I've ever been on. I hope that doesn't change.

USMC Vet.... If you really are a Vet, thank you. I am kinda dissapointed that our millitary teaches these types of attitudes. I was impressed with the way that everyone here offered their ideas and knowledge to the question you asked about the machine. Then to turn around and smack them all in the face with your attitude, just makes absolutely no sense. Most people I've seen on this site are not in this for the money. Its a hobby. I come home at night after a good days work, look at my machines, and just smile. I think most here feel the same way with their machines.

I hope that Lyons machine is a knockoff and you get stuck with it!

Wow.....pretty pathetic... It almost makes me ashamed to admit that I too am a veteran of the armed forces after that display of childish behavior.

Just a word of advice, get off of your high horse. If you feel like you've been slighted, cheated or taken adavantage of in any other way, shape or form why don't you just contact the individual in private?

Why did you have to air your supposed "dirty laundry" in front of everybody else that post's here? It seems to me that all you have accomplished here other than picking up a cool machine is burn, no, destroy a TON of bridges. Ranting in public and executing some tactless "in-your-face" manuevers really just shows how infantile your are acting.

Another thing, maybe you should consider giving up the "USMC Vet" moniker and choose another alias for use here. My reasoning behind that statement is the fact that after everybody gets done with this thread, you'll more than likely find yourself in a very lonely corner. Good luck ever getting anybody to ever help you out again or respond to one of your posts. It's just human nature.

I myself have a large capacity to forgive. And I also beleive in second chances. As the count goes, that was your second chance! In parting, please remember this, I don't hate you. I just hate your sin.

Nuff' said.

Vet...
I think you'll look back and regret this....
This is a great site... I wish I could meet ALL members here... People want to line pockets?!
If you dig through the post here you'll find members GIVING away hard to find parts...
endless advice/help on machines (most repeated several times with no hesitation.)

So just know... if you do collect... you'll never find a better group of collectors/friends or
site that helps than here...

You asked a question about a rare machine... for a price nobody knows.... Why? Cause nobody knows.. Depends on location and what the owner knows or wants. I've bought a 81 for $75, and
a Standard Westinghouse cooler for $300 Is the cooler worth more than a 81?... Looks like it in
this case.
There was another cup dispenser machine that darn near had to be given away here...
Had a mirror on it. Very cool. But there is no way in knowing prices...

You got a rare machine, seems few want it, seems some don't care. If you bought it for an
investment good luck... Someone out there may pay you what you want... but there
is no gaurantee. I buy cause I like them...

Wish you the best!

This board is viewed by many, yet only have a few real regular participants. Some do it as a hobby as I do, and some do it as a hobby but now it has become a job they love. In the years I have participated here I have never felt I was amongst opportunists. Your machine may very well be worth $5K and more to the right person. To me it's useless. I don't know what the real value is other than it flushed out your feelings towards those who exchange imformation with you. Now that we know you are someone who thinks we want to line our pockets we will know how to react to any help you may need.

USMC Vet, Please hear me out. I am not trying to slam you in any way but I'm totally disapointed with your attitude towards our community here. I know that you have been around here long enough to see all the good fortunes that have developed here at SMC. I personally feel offended by your comment that "we are all trying to line our pockets". As you know there was a another great find just last week, the 7up 81 machine that Glen bought. I could have easily have pursued a "bidding war" with Glen and still made a few thousand bucks had I chosen to buy and resale the machine, but Glen and I talked it over and I purposely offered a "lower bid" so that Glen could get the machine. You may be asking yourself why? Simply because its not always about the money, I have known Glen for a few years and I know Glen will return the favor in the future. As for your Lyon's machine, I really liked your machine and would have loved to add it to my collection. I currently have two other complete vintage cup vendor machines. I honestly didn't know how much to offer you for the Lyon's machine or if you were even going to be able to buy it yourself. You would be really hard pressed to find another website with the loyality to fellow collectors that is displayed here. Most of us will never even meet each other in person but yet we are still quick to help each other out. I personally am proud to be a member of SMC!!! I wish you all the best of luck '<img'>

Wow

This is a hobby for me that brings me alot of enjoyment. Everyone (workers, friends, people walking past my garage)that see's one of my machines asks questions because it brings back memory's.

I have bought/sold parts through this board & I never expect someone not to make money on their parts.  Plus I have been given parts for free & I have given parts away because its not about the money.

I have sold 3 machines here in SC but when I look back on the time & materials invested I think I may be lucky to break even.

Let's keep this a great group/family & move on!
