Title: Powder coated acorns...
Post by: Bob K on August 26, 2006, 01:54:53 pm
Well, slowly but surely I'm getting a bit better at powdercoating.  I've done five Oak Acorn gumball machines and thought you guys might like to see a picture.  I'm waiting for the coin mechs to come back from re-chroming.  It's a lot of fun as the powder is offered by a bunch of companies in a wide range of colors.  As you can see, I didn't go with original colors  :D  :

Those look great.  What do you use to bake the powder coating.

I've read a little about it and a conventional regular 'ol kitchen oven will work. I believe you just need to rig something up inside it to hang the parts. Suggest not to use your kitchen oven, but to wire up an old one in the garage.

P.S. Looks nice Bob

Your powdercoating looks great. I have one of Eastwoods units and a regular old oven, and I love it for doing small parts. I just wish I had a bigger oven.:)

Well, you're ahead of me, Roger.  :D

I've got the Craftsman electric gun from Sears, and it really is barely adequate even for little hobby work like the stuff that I'm doing.

I'm on my second one and I expect this one to go any minute  :hopefull:  .

What happens when you need to bake an entire cabinet or even just a door ? Industrial oven ?

Those acorns look great ! Looks almost like plastic rather than coated metal !
