Hi Guys...

Picked up the National Vending Machine today.. 330 mile round trip...

Have spent all afternoon shoe horning it into my room.. Looks dinky next to the Stoner...
Haven't had anytime to have a good look at it and now I have a sore throat and I'm off to bed...

The coin mech is different to anything I've had before..The machine was last used in 1980 and looks like it would have vended a packet of cigarettes for 85c. Can't get it to work at the moment so will be looking for some advice on that...

Does anyone sell a restoration manual for this machine.. Covering things like coin mechs... ?

Dave, congrats it looks to be in pretty good shape.  This is very similar to my machine that you sent me the pull lever for.  I've not put mine back together yet, but if you have any questions about the mech I can try to help.

Thanks,
David

Thanks for all the positive coments.. would just like to get the baby to work now...

Can't work out how the coin mech works or even what coin it would have vended on. The only advertising on the front says 85c so I'm assuming that the coin mech would accept all three coins to the value of 85c. Exact coins only.. No change.

Chaps plse excuse my ignorance here but I just can't see how it all comes together.. I can see that the slug rejector sits on top of the coin mech and that somehow the coin mech will slide across (I think) because it appears to be in a runner.. But that's about all I can work out.. Can't even see how it vends...

Have enclosed some pictures... Anyone that can throw light on this plse chip in... Plse remember that I am veyr slow on the up take so work at ground level...

I would like to get it onto one coin if possible.. Don't care which one although 5c would be best...

Thanking you greatly in anticipation...

Yep, that is a sliding mech.  By dead boss called them finger mechs.

My experience is with old National candy around that time, they were 5 & 10¢ mechs. They had to be modified to accept  more.  I have manuals from National and Wico that made kits to modify them to a higher price.

I have 6-8 old mechs, but I have no idea how/ what they are set for.  I also have a complete new side wall, for an old National, but does look a little different that yours.

Thanks for chipping in... How does the whole system work... ?

I can see that the mech has to be under the rejector to collect the coin... But after that I'm at a loss...

Can the mechs be converted etc.

Here is a picture of the right side wall.

Basically the bottom part holds the coins then the correct amount was insert, knob pulled it ran past the "fingers" and the money was dropped into the coin box.

Can they be converted?  Yes.   Most started out 5&10.  It required a fair amount of work to convert them.  I have one book on converting them to 20-25¢, it has 19 pages!

A company called Vend Star made a electric mech for 5¢ to $3.15 vend price (I have 2 of them)

Here is a picture of "New" side wall I have.  I have circled a piece you are missing, in red.  It is the Arm Assembly-Main shaft end.  I thought I had an extra one, but I don't.

Thanks for the photo... Not sure if my mech is the same as yours because I can't see where that extra bit would go on mine...
Not had much time to fiddle with it today. If I get a chance will have it on the bench and a look at it again tomorrow.

You need it. Please Remember the pic I sent you does not have a rejector or coin mech installed.

Dave-
These were file photos. My machine is kind of tucked away in the corner of the garage. I can get it if absolutely necessary, but maybe someone else's machine is more readily accessible?
Do you need a pic of the backside or something?

At this second, I want to keep the piece you are missing.  I plan on using that complete sidewall on a National 510 candy.

It would not be a hard part to make, but is required if you want your to make it work.  That is part of guts that slides the mech back and forth.

I can make a drawing of it if you want.

Dave,

I may have that part and a fully complete 9 pull mech to go with it.  I bought a national 9 pull for parts in case I needed them for my 7 pull.  Like Tom, my 9 pull is buried in the garage right now--but I think it has a complete mech in it.  My 7 pull already has a complete mech in it that was converted by the vending company to take up to $4.00 so I think I will be able to part with the 9 pull mech.  I have to go out of town for business for the first few days of the week so let me check later in the week and I will let you know.

Tim

that sounds great I'd appreicate it if you could have a look when you get time and get back to me with what you have and what you want to sell...

BG - Thanks for the offer of drawing the part... I'll wait and see what Tim has before putting you to all that effort...

Dave,

I finally made my way to the back of the garage where the National 9 Pull was stored and it does have a complete mech.  I sent you a PM.  Here are the pictures.

Can somebody help me with disassembly?  blush I have never pulled one of these apart and don't want to remove the wrong screw and find a pile of parts and springs on the floor.  Just point me to the correct screws/bolts and I think I can manage!  biggrin

I think the only piece they are missing is the held by the "wing nut" It is the tear drop shaped
metal lever.
