Title: Cleaning refrigeration unit
Post by: Bob K on June 18, 2004, 07:49:12 am
Hi all,
Before I bring a newly acquired machine into my basement (oof...ouch) I like to get it as spotless as possible while it's still in my driveway - including the refrigeration system, as that is always pretty filthy and grimey.  I've always used a sponge and a strong kitchen cleaner like Lestoil or Simply Green and worked away at the grunge.

Anyone think it's a problem to spray engine cleaner/degreaser over the system and hose it off?  I use this stuff all the time on my old Volkswagens.  It doesn't harm the paint and it REALLY gets things clean.  I wouldn't blast the water in there as it could knock the wiring around, but with a gentle touch does anybody see a problem with this cleaning method?

Anything in the refrigeration system that could be harmed?

If anyone has different cleaning tips I'd love to hear them.

Thanks as always,
Bob
