Oh wow.. yeah I wasn't going to make that drive.. the offer I made him was figuring I'd have to pay 400+ to ship it from most places.. and the photos he sent me make it look pretty rough.. you did a great job on the cleanup... it does look like a real nice original ... as others have said, no need for paint job on this one.. clean up the inside, maybe redo insulation, gaskets, wiring and you've got yourself a nice original.

Congrats!

Well machine doesn't cool - figured that would be the case from the service refill installed on it.

That thing is COOL!  I love nice original machines.  Is the coin mech backing plate missing or did you take it off?

Oddly enough it was missing, unsure why it was removed.

The coin mechanism at some point could of been switched and they lost or forgot to put the backplate back on...

Pretty Close -  and it doesn't cool so I need to get the system refurbished, not restored as I want to try and keep it as close to original as possible.

Nice Find.  It is great when a clean original pops up.... and a Pepsi 81 is a hard one to find.  Good Job.

Replaced Thermostat today after some trouble shooting, working like a charm on #2 and cooling down to 37 degrees.

I sold my Pepsi 81 for $3000 a few years ago. It was a clean original machine complete and cooling. Thought it was an O.K. deal. Didn't have to pay e-bay or paypal fees which was even better.
