Title: Post your Cavalier USS-8-64 photos here !! Let's see them.
Post by: USS64K on January 23, 2010, 08:08:57 am
Hey all,

Think it would be cool if everyone posted a photo or two of their USS-8-64.  Maybe an original and one the way it looks now after cleaning and repainting.

What do you all think?

It would be a great resource for reference regarding the subtle variations of these machines.  And finally, a photo after the creative reformation.   I have been so impressed with Josh's machine that I am going to incorporate alot of the  creative details that he put into his USS-8-64.

Hope you all feel the same.    Sooo.....  here's how my 1975 Cavalier the way I bought it last weekend.

I've already stripped off the wood grain and taken basically everything out of the door.   Stack is out, shelves are out and repainted.  Gonna go through about 80% of the machine before it's back together late spring /early summer.  I'll post another once it's done.

Thanks in advance all!!!!   OK,   here is the fiished product as of today.  Happy to have it done!!!  Works as it should.

My USS-8-64.  My first machine and I use it every day.  1976 vintage and it is all original.  I don't care what Pat says--I'm keeping the woodgrain!  When I picked it up the bottle guides were still taped to the shelves.  The machine had never been put into service and was sitting in the back room of a barber shop in Columbus for over 30 years!  Long story behind it.

In the picture with my 64 is my penny scale, stoner 180 with Gum wheel.. The gray machine around the corner is my Stoner Jr with Gum Wheel and if you look over on the messy ping pong table you will see my 5 cent Candyette machine.  But I can stop buying whenever I want - - yeah keep telling yourself that!

Way cool!!  Thanks.

Mine was built 11/75 and was in the break room of a company on Wisconsin Ave in Appleton, WI until about 8 years ago when a college kid bought it and kept if full of beer for friends.   About 4 years ago, he unplugged it until this past week.   All worked as it should.   Hey, I was wondering why the tape was on the shelves.  Mine had it also.  Kudos for keeping the woodgrain..  Mine has a few dents to take out so the woodgrain was removed.  Can't wait till it's all painted up!

I didn't like the light blue/gray at the bottom and changed it to match the blue in the logo. Other than that, it was just a cleaning.

Nice Pepsi version.

The tape on the spacers was to keep them from shifting around in the machine during shipping I suspect.

Here are two pictures of the machine that is still in use at our local Fire Station.

I imagine in another few years or so this one might be sold to some lucky guy for use in his garage. Until then we will continue to buy Cokes and Pepsi out it when attending our Monday night meetings.

Before and after of a woodgrain, can't remember the year on this one.  The woodgrain came off clean and it was white underneath, I bought this one for a friend and he preferred the look, so it stayed.

Also a couple pics of a 'theme' machine, Harley which is the current parts machine.  The plan is to eventually use the door and shell to update my current USS-8-48 (pepsi version) with a nice dark blue Pepsi.  I traded the above machine for a future paint job on this one.

Here's the one I currently use, bought it off Gumbo for $25, needed a lot of work, but its been great.

Also are a few photos of how I mount the bottle caps.  I bought some round magnets from a craft store, and I glue them to each selection.  The caps stick right on, and I can change them whenever I need.

Neat idea for the bottle caps.  I will have to do that!

Bottle caps are a great idea even on shelves with cans. I was just discussing label problems with Ray ( aka: MyGoose) today. I have 2 of these machines and the knobs are plastic, does the magnet just stick to the metal behind them?

The first one pictured also had woodgrain but nice white paint underneath.

I did the magnet trick about a year ago... I used hot glue and glued a magnet to each plastic knob. I then just stick a corresponding bottle cap to the slot. I put a bunch of magnets inside the door and keep the extras inside just like that other picture..

Hot glue did the trick for me, my only problem is keeping a full stock of bottle caps for each type of beer!

I bought the magnets from Michael's Crafts, they had a pack of 25.

I like that magnet trick!
I used velcro on my bottle caps but they don't store as easy as yours.

I made velcro labels for my Vendo can machine.. that worked very well. I put a strip of velcro on each of the can release levers and made different labels on the computer and laminated..
