The pics extend downward, as they should, but they now obliterate the response posts from the other people.  All pics now do that on these boards, yet oddly no one has mentioned it yet.  See the "pre-60's" board, and click on "Parts Needed" and also "Do you lets the kids use your machine?"  Both of those messages have nice pics in the posts, but the follow-up posts are underneath the images !!

Another minor problem is that the headers at the top of the page have odd blue blocky shapes.  Each heading is placed within a 1/2" square light blue block - and the black text is cut off since it can't fit inside  just a half-inch of space.

Jim and Pat - I am just pointing this out, so please don't take offense.

What browser are you using?  I'm using IE and the posts look fine.

Hey - you are right !  I am using the most recent version of Netscape Commnicator (v4.79), and the problems does exist.  But I just tried IE and all the pics came out just fine, and the blockiness stopped.  Apparently there is some HTML coding problems where it is not cross-compatible with both browsers.

I hate to say this, but Netscape 4.79 is not considered a current version.  May I suggest upgrading to 6.2 or later(if there is a newer version) as this is what I utilize to view the board with no problems...

Version 4.xx has been known to produce problems with some table structures as well as font sizing.

Lastly, when you privately corresponded, you never followed and sent me the info I requested... I might be a little slow at times but I'll always try to correct problems for users if at all possible! In this case, upgrading your browser is the best course of action.

Actually, I have no problems with any of the other forums and websites that I frequent, and this version of Netscape is not generally considered problematic.  The forum worked fine with Netscape 4 before, but I won't make a big deal out of it.  There are still a lot of Netscape users out there that never upgraded to 6 for various reasons.  I have my own reasons - but since there are so many Netscape 4.xx users, it is a good idea to make websites work for IE, Netscape 4.xx, and Netscape 6.xx

Backwards compatibity is a good goal, IMHO

What I should have said is that 4.79 was the last version before AOL messed up the bookmark functionality.  With 6.xx they only have one column for bookmarks, and they also used a clunkier interface for managing your bookmarks (similar to IE - where if you have hundreds of bookmarks and folders it is a real bear to manage them).

With just one column of bookmarks, it really limits me.  With Netscape 4.79 I can see 4 or 5 columns, so I can instantly switch web pages easily (I have a helluva lotta bookmarks).

I to am a Netscape user... But I have to keep abreast of technologies that change. In that I mean, I want to provide the best possible software for my users whether it be free or paid for.

As technologies change, limitations on older browsers becomes apparent. I always try to develop things so they stay consistant across platforms as well as browsers. Due to incompatabilities between platforms/browsers, not all backwards compatability is acheived... I, as well as many other developers, wish this weren't the case.

Additionally, statistics show that a great majority of Soda-Machines.Com visitors are using IE. One has to look at this with developing in mind... If I know most of my users are utilizing IE, then I may develop something that may function slightly better on that browser...  That's just the way technology is forcing us to go...

Don't get me wrong and think I'm only thinking of IE users; I'm a Netscape user all the way from version 1.0 (still have the floppy disks too!)! I just felt the upgrade provided many enhancements that were warranted for both end users as well as administration.

Lastly, I'm not telling you to update your browser, but it will be only a matter of time before things begin to fall apart in version 4.xx. After all, I don't know of anyone using version 3.xx and I used to have that on my system for checking browser compatabilities. Now, I stop at version 4.7...

Lastly, lastly, I was actually excited when AOL acquired Netscape because I thought new life would come to the browser, and to some extent it has... I hated the monopoly between Micro$oft and AOL!

I'll stop venting...
In the end, lifeson, I hope you can bear with our changes, we're only attempting to make things better for everyone!!!

The only reason I belabored the point is that there is probably just a line or two of code that would fix the problem, but I believe it is not your fault - it is IKONboard's.  I use some other forums from them, and they exhibit the same problem - for example, their "Graphics" board.  All the other forums I use do not have that problem (i.e. Canopus DVRaptor, Nikon, etc.).  They are based on a different platform.

I am fine with it  -  I just use IE now for any Ikonboard site.  This is my favorite forum, since my Coke machine is my favorite item of my gameroom !!  So switching browsers is a small price to pay.

This image shows why I have not upgraded to 6.x  - with 4.x I can see all my bookmarks and folders at once, which saves me a lot of time while switching from site to site.
