Pictures are here, don't know if it runs. Considering rewiring before selling to raise value,

Well, please don't take this the wrong way, but I don't think rewiring the machine will increase the value that much, or at all, so I would'nt spend the extra cash on that.
I say that because unless it's someone that has no idea about these machines, there are far too many things wrong with the machine as it sits to command a price that I think you might be asking.
For someone that just wants a coke machine for his/her mancave and doesnt care about the details, then if you rewired it, that can be a selling poin to them, but that's about all it would be.
The paint on the machine is amature at best (the bottle door is painted over, the inside has rust bubbles painted over at the top etc...)  The Coke lettering looks like someone did it with liquid paper, and bad at that.  The motor was not touched at all, which might be in this case a good thing lol
As well, the black rubber seal that goes around the door was painted red too, as if someone just painted the machine as it sits.
I won't downplay the machine more than that, but I bring it up only because you asked about if you should rewire it to raise the value, and Im just saying that the machine needs to be stripped down and re-done properly, so let someone else rewire it, and save your cash, and just list it at a price that you feel comfortabe with, and see who bites.

I appreciate the info. It definitely had a bad restore at sometime in it's lifetime but it was in the deal along with the 81 i got a while back. What's a value on a 39 for somebody trying to restore.?

I'd say rewire it only to test it and be able to say it cools - unless you know it works; otherwise, I agree that it needs a complete restore and a rewire wouldn't raise the value at all.
Value? - $500-$600 if complete and cools IMO. I haven't tracked 39's lately though...

I wish this was posted a few days earlier. I pulled the trigger  this past Saturday on a V39.

Kilroy,

What did you spend?  What is the going rate for an unrestored in good condition Vendo 39?

 With the following disclaimers:

1. I love the 39. It's all things 1950's and Coke, well my opinion.

2. My first coke machine was a v39. i was  scammed by the  "restorer" and found this site after vowing to never be taken  again.

3. $300-400 complete 39's do not show up around metro Detroit.  I'd be buying them left and right if they did.

4. The seller was cute. too bad she was married.

That said, I paid $850, first gen ( ice cold on door, ribbed, 2 hole vent,  all intact, small rust hole, and no dents or dings) It was 45 minutes away, so I saved on shipping.

I am happy I got my replacement 39, and i have a transitional 56, so multi flavor vending is covered .

Jim,
I don't think that is bad price if it does not need major work to be used and displayed.
IMO - anywhere in the $300-$600 is fair for 39's needing restoration and/or parts.

And I offerred to go get it with Jim in my Explorer, so he really saves on shipping!

And I brought the Transitional 81 that I sold to Jim to his house too.

Hmmm...Come to think of it, maybe I should be called Shipper-Bob!

Although truth be told... Jim helped me load (along with RayG) the Canada Dry Ideal 85 that I bought and Jim is storing it for me in his garage for free...So, it's the least I can do!

Let's go get it Jim before you have any more buyer's remorse!!!!

Kilroy,

Good to hear that you found a V-39.  Maybe you can use Pat's wife's Escort to pick it up! laugh Cool biggrin  Come to think of it, Pat would probably store it for you for at least 6-9 months!  tounge

Looking forward to seeing a few pictures.

You guys made my morning. Thank you.

I graciously accepted the offer to pick it up from Bob ( "Slider in the back of the truck Bob") and will make some room in the garage tonight.  But Than you Ray for the offer, and to Tim for offering  storage and pick up on Pat's behalf  Smiley

It was repainted at some point in it's life, but I would like to take it back to all red.

Pics will be coming, I think, when it is done, it will be  a looker next to  a Seeburg.
