I pose this question to the more knowledgeable people on the boards:

Did Vendo  offer an electric mech for the 56?

Ran across this machine on another site, seller claims this was a  factory option. I  never heard of conversion kits, or that this was an option., and I though transitional machines started  after the run of 56's.

Just doesn't seem the same without a crank.

No - they all had the crank!
Vendors converted machines to electric mechs so they could charge more for the soda.
Looks like a nice machine though and has the less common glass door.
How much are they asking?

Yep they were converted in the field. As soda went from $0.10 to $0.15 people didn't want to replace their machine with a new square top and the old mech would only go to $0.10 so they converted them to electric mechs so they could remain in operation. I have seen this a lot on 110's

If it was an option there wouldnt be a plate covering the crank handle hole, There wouldnt be a hole at all! You should see the frankenstein 56 im building! If I get time I will post some pictures tonight.

Seems a V-80, 144 or 216 coin mech door would be an excellent candidate for a conversion...

My six cents,

Unfortunately, all these doors are too shallow.

Glen's right!...the coin door area on those machines is recessed.

Good example of what Josh is talking about on ebay right now.  Not a bad looking machine, but I'd much rather have the crank!
