Title: Cavalier 64e solenoid will not engage
Post by: on November 03, 2004, 03:56:59 pm
Hi, just brought home a really nice Cavalier 64E.  The coin mech accepts the money, will give change but does not engage the solenoid to release the bottle gates.

I checked and power is getting to the solenoid, I can move the mechanism manually and the gates open but either the solenoid is dead or the coin mech isn't giving it the signal to work, any idea which of the two it might be.

I used to have a Cavalier 72 and seem to remember that the solenoid always made a low humming noise the solenoid is not making any noise now.

Thanks in advance.

Well, you can try the old jumper pins 1&3 on the jones socket trick & see if the solenoid is functional, if it works, then the coinmech is at fault, if not, then the solenoid is open.

Nope I sold the entire bottle rack a few weeks ago. I see that funtronics sells a new one for only $24.00. It is part #97A. give them a call at (301)371-5246. If you don't have one already it is worth buying a catalog.

Thanks for the help, can you explain to me the Jones Socket Trick?

Sure, to test the vending circut & help you determine if your troubles are caused by either the Coinmech not sending a vend pulse, or the solenoid being open.

1. unplug the coinmech

2. using an insulated piece of 16 gauge wire (ends striped bare) insert one end into the jones socket's pin no.1, per the above pinout diagram (be careful, the other end of the wire will have line voltage on it!) now briefly touch the other end onto (in) the jones socket's no.3 pin no more than 1/2 to 1 second maximum

if the solenoid "kicks" in , it's the coinmech at fault.

if it doesn't then the solenoid is either open, or the wiring is suspect between pin #3 on the jones socket & the one side of the solenoid or possibly the wiring harness's connector
( the pale white rectangular looking plastic thing down by the bottom of the door) , is corroded . check your machines wiring diagram, it should be on the back side of the main door.

hope this helps you out...JohnieG

Well I tried that trick and the solenoid didn't start, plus I tried a new coinmech that I know to be working and that didn't work so I guess my solenoid is dead.  I am going to order one from funtronics, are they pretty easy to install?

Glad it helped you figure out what was going on. Yea, they go in pretty easily, a few screws, a cotter-pin & the wire connectors,

Hello

Will the funtronics have a vend solenoid for my Vendo 63?

Kevin
