Why are people paying so much for this repro Pepsi Thermometer?

Just noticed the DOZENS listed on Ebay and crazy prices being paid. Most sellers are claiming its dated 1948.

I had one of these years ago doesn't even look "real" in my opinion.

Take a look at the original "Americana" box it came in.
