Hi Guys...

Went to my very first live auction yesterday... Didn't know it at the time but Neil (the other English member) was also there. In fact we stood next to each other in the queue.

Anyway, I got a little carried away nodding my head and the end result was I managed to take home a rather large and extreamely heavy Stoner Candy Machine... Its covered over in the garage at the moment awaiting the right moment to be announced to Mrs Birdman... Could be there a while...

Its a eight pull with gum wheel machine... Not sure what model that is???
Its been professionally restored, not to Curtis's standards but still very nicely,  at sometime in the past and I'm toying with the idea of getting it re-sprayed... Might leave as-is... The coin mech has been removed and its on free vend at the moment... However, the coin mech is in the stand and so when I do get the chance to set it all up I'll be asking silly questions about how to do this and how to do that...

Going to have to walk to work for the next six months but I think it will be worth it...

Dave

It's killing me... I want to get at it but now is not the right time...

Quick picture whilst Mrs B is doing the kids homework...

Buy a her a nice pair of earings or jewelery (not too much) something small that comes in a small box and one that will vend.  then show her the machine ask her to pull the Knob and it'll vend jewelery...

For SURE she'll let you keep it... just say though that you have to do some more repairs on it before she tries to vend it again expecting a diamond or something..

Dave,

Welcome to the club!  Nice 180 you have there. drinking

Now get it all set up for the unveiling and buy Mrs. Birdman some nice jewelry and put the box in the machine.  Have her test out the machine and out comes the jewelry box!

It just might work but who knows.  My wife thinks I am out of my mind with some of the items I have bought over the months--but they are holding their value better than my stocks!  I have my eye on another item but I may have to keep it over at a friends house for a bit!  Oo

Very Nice Dave ! ! !
I think you took the right approach on this purchase as it only takes two weeks for forgiveness, but a lifetime for permission!

Welcome to the Stoner club!
Can we call you Jeff Spicoli now? (Fast Times at Ridgemont High)
Attached is a pic of mine - a little rougher, but straight and complete.
My 7-year-old keeps asking me when I'm going to fix up the candy machine as I always seem to be working on other machines.

Thanks for the great welcome to the new club...

Mrs B found it the other night... Bit difficult not to really, she had to step over it to get to the
washing machine... The good news however, is that she didn't hit the roof..

I think I have worn her down now so that she is not at all surprised with anything I bring home...

Al I need now is a few friends round so I can lift it onto the stand and start working on it... I never knew the thing could be so heavy...

As soon as its together I'll shot a few more pictures and then ask the silly questions...

Well, took Glen & Lenord's Advice and removed the stack before placing on the base...
Much easier thanks...

Now have it in the room and have given it a bit of a polish... Looks like its been there for years..

The coin mech was removed prior to purchase and I had a fiddle to try and get it back in place but gave up in the end.. It looks like it needs a overhaul...

So, first silly question.... The machine I assume vends on 25c... I load the coin mech with five cent pieces but nothing seems to happen... They seem to get caught at the little gate on the bottom. I can't work out how the mech registers that it has the right money and what it does to allow the machine to vend... Any help plse....

The "fresh candy" embossed lettering on the front... Is that usually a different colour to the rest of the machine....

Cheers

It looks right at home Dave, Good find.. I'm painting my Jr up in simliar colors for my room.. can't wait to get it back from the painter...
as far as the coin mech, are you sure it's 25 cents? seems high? if it is on 25 cents, I doubt there is room for 5 nickels in there? probalby just a 25 cent peice.

My jr vends on 10 cents on 5 of the rows, and 15 cents on the other.. and there is an adjustment to allow this... I'm still playing with it ,so not exacly sure how to change it...

I'm sure Curtis can shed some light on this subject. help

Birdman,

nice Stoner.  I would guess it to be a 5c or 5c/10c machine.  What does the stainless plate say, nickels only, nickels and dimes, or something like deposit coins?  How about the rods that say "Out", they should have a price on their tag.  Did you say that it did have acoin mech?

Here is a picture of an instruction card from Stoner on price adjustments.

You make the adjustments by opening or closing the piece in the back of my second picture.  This assembly is above your pull knobs.

Hi Larry

thanks for chipping in...

Have enclosed pictures of the coin mech and the levers I have at the top of the knobs...
There are three levers... The bottom one is a little tighter than the top two... As can be seen the insides are a little dirty. The guy before me had it permanantly on free vend...

The only reason I say that it is a 25c machine is because that's what the flags say...

It does say nickle and dime...

When I put a dime in, it just falls through... When I put a nickle in it catches on the bottom by the exit and I can physically release the coin by manually pulling the bottom lever down... Hope that makes sense...

Thanks Guys

Dave

Dave,
That appears to be a nickel/dime rejector. I say appears because it is definately a dime on the backside that is shown; however, NRI made nickel/dime rejectors, quarter/nickel rejectors and quarter/dime rejectors and so on...
Compare the front side to your 39 or 56 rejector. I would bet you have a nickel/dime rejector in which case quarters would not be accepted.
Post a pic of the front side if you can.
Curtis sells a repro manual that covers everything.

Hi Tom

Here's a picture of the other side...

I have tried nickles and they seem to go through okay but the dimes just drop out...

Dave,
Even though the nickel cradle is different from any I've seen, it looks like it is a nickel/dime rejector.
Hard for me to diagnose what the dimes problem is - where in the dime path is it falling through? Does the dime make it through the main plate of the rejector or does it fall straight through?

Hi Tom ... I t looks like they are just falling through...

I re-connected the coin mech and the machine vends on a 5c piece.. I am assuming that the
reason the dime is falling thorugh is because its not currently set to take them (because of the lower price vend)

It does say on the coin plate nickles & dimes...

Will stick with the 5c vend for now until I figure what to do next... Kids love it and that's what matters...

Can't believe how much gum this machine could vend.....
