Hi all,
My machine vends fine. It is set for .20 cents. But if a quarter is dropped in it doesn't give a nickle back. When the quarter is inserted it goes through the quarter path and into the collection box. But it just doesn't give change. Any ideas?

Do you have nickles in the change tubes?

Yep. Filled both of them almost to the top today. I had put two or three nickles in the other day and it didn't give change. So I had been saving nickles all week and when I went to the bank today, I picked up two rolls and put all of them in the changer. I was hoping it was just the low inventory of nickles, but no joy. Also, the inventory switch works OK. Spits out nickles as long as I hold the switch.

Its the Coinco S75-9800B.
Looking at the Operation and Service Manual the troubleshooting flow chart says to change the logic board. If I can fix it, I would like to, instead of changing it. But I want to make sure that it is definitely the board before proceding.
I found one possible cause by looking at the schematics. If pin 5 of the board to the motor pulse/carrier switch is open, then the pay-out motor won't turn on cue from the board but will from the inventory switch. I could also check this wire to see if the board is putting out the pay-out signal.
I haven't pulled the changer apart to check any of this yet. I was waiting for someone with experience to suggest something to check.

Yes, you are correct,if there's no signal @ pin5 of the logic board,then it could give that problem, the logic on the circut board is early CMOS, & very touchy about it's logic (voltage) levels, there are at least 6-8 components that can cause it to screw up...not to mention the OEM/proprietary logic CPU/Chip...
Plan A).if the rest of the mech's mechanic's are in good shape, then remove the board & ship it to me, I can trouble shoot it & repair it for you & it'll be cheaper than replacing your 'mech. ($20.00 + parts) if it's beyond repair, you're out nothing,
Plan B),or I have a mech on Ebay now, buy it now & ship me the dead mech & I'll credit you $10.00 for your "core" exchange" & go 1/2 in on the return shipping.
Plan C). or you can ship the entire 'mech. to me & I can repair it as necessary & clean up the coin-paths & adjust the switches...same as "Plan A" $20.00 +parts, you own Mech will be returned to you.

Thanks johnieG. But believe it or not, the thing is working now! I pulled the coin mech out and took off the back cover to check the wiring. I also pulled the board and inspected it. All looked good so I put it back in. Lo and behold, the thing worked!
After replacing the "Correct Change" light bulb and removing all the nickles, that is working now, too. I found that nickles in the left tube have no effect on the switch. And it takes 6 nickles in the right tube to make the light go out. The manual mentioned filling both tubes evenly but it didn't say why. Now I know. The two or three I put in the other day weren't enough to operate the switch.
All is well for now. However, if I have problems with it in the future I'll be sure to call on you.

The coin mech alternates change delivery from the two tubes. I thought the mechs had switches for each tube... If yours has only one, then there could be the possibility of receiving incorrect change due to an empty left tube. In this case, the nickel levels should be the same per the manual.
