I have seen them in poor (but restorable) complete shape sell for as little as $700.

The only draw back is re-installing the compressor assembly. Thet were originally sealed into the machine cabinet with a cork liner. The cork liner must be destroyed to remove the unit. That problem is that as you tighten the bolts to reseal the unit it will slide out from the main cabinet.
