Title: Id this coke cooler
Post by: on January 07, 2006, 12:44:36 pm
I purchased this cooler and it has been restored, but is missing the original cap catcher. I was wanting to know what year and what type, and if anyone knows where I can get a orignial cap catcher or a repro of the original. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I just joined the forum. Thanks,
Jeff...

I think yours is an earlier Westinghouse chest since it is open around the bottom.

Hi Jeff,

Welcome to the site!  Dan (halehouse) is correct.  It is an early version of a Westinghouse Master.  There's info in the soda machines section of the site.

Soda Jerk Works and Funtroniucs I believe carry the repro catchers...
Also I don't know who they are or if they hit this board but whoever carries the new
reproduction Westinghouse JRs that catcher is exactly what you want as it has the curved
bottoms like the originals the repros are flat bottomed.

Wish they'd sell just lids and the catchers .... does anyone know if they will?

Eric

Oh yeah... very nice cooler... Looks awesome... if the liner on the inside is original
look along the top... there may be embossed numbers, a dash and letter...
the two numbers will be the year it was made. And if there's a T I believe that
stands for Tennessee.... Why Tenn? Don't know... just what a collector told me...
Maybe that was where the plant was/is.

Eric

If the T really stands for Tennesse, then I think you might have a Cavalier Master cooler.  Cavalier Corp. produced coolers very much like the Westinghouse pre-war coolers and Cavalier was based out of tennessee.

Thanks for the replies. The person I bought it from said the old liner was stamped 7-6-1935, but didn't know if that was correct since he replaced with a new galvanized liner. I have tried to purchase a cap catcher from the site with the new repro Jr's, but they want sell it separate? But thanks for all the info. Anything else is welcome. :)
