Title: Vendo Vari-Price repair / part needed.
Post by: Fire708 on February 27, 2012, 08:23:38 pm
Hi all,
I bought my first machine for $250 (Please don't tell me I over paid!) a little over a week ago  :D, its a Vendo v63 and I believe its from '64. For me its in excellent condition, good paint with a few scratches, works very well, seems to have all the original parts.  Vending mech does stick once in a while but I'm gonna send that off to SodaJerks and have it cleaned up.

I really want to be able to set it to .10 vend and After researching on how to set the price, I could never find jumper settings that match this model so I pulled the thing mostly apart and traced the wiring and found that one of the contacts on the wiper arm had the tip broken off causing it to trip the vend relay to soon. Is there anyone here who knows where I may be able to find a trash Vari-price to scavenge the part or how I could possibly fabricate a new contact. The copper is very thin.  Ideas on even rigging it would by very much appreciated.

The contact is the far left copper strip in the pict.

Thanks,
Darrell

Welcome to the board Darrell. You may be spending way too much time trying to get that old unit working again just to find it giving you more problems in the future. Get yourself a good old Coinco S-75 to replace it and have fewer headaches to deal with. They are pretty cheap ($30 to $50) on ebay.
Steve at SodaJerkWorks does great work but shipping cost will be outrageous for a bottle stack. With your ambition we already know you can dial it in yourself. Take it out and see what makes it work, you will find the problem. If not, check back with us.
That's a nice little machine you found.........good job!

Welcome!  $250 is a good price these days for a V-63, so you did good there.  As for the bottle stack, listen to MoonDawg, stick around here for a little bit and you will have no problem getting that dialed in.  If you are going to pull it out to send it out, you're 3/4 of the way there on fixing it.

Wow,
Didn't realize they were that hated. I kinda wanted to keep it around as it looks new and, other than the contact, works perfectly, and is all metal.

Guess ill look for a coinco.

Thanks for the replies !

It all depends on how much effort you wish to put into the Variprice, it is reparable, but they are
electro-mechanical coinmechs, so they are a bit of a pain to repair, if you find a donor mech with the contacts, you can give it a try, just trying to keep it simple.

I have some freeplay switches I made. It installs with velcro provided and mounts on top of your existing mech.right behind the bent coin release lever. Unplug your Jones plug and plug this one in it's place. Close the coin door and push down your coin return lever and it vends every time.
Fits all makes of machine.
I will sell them to members here for $25.00 including shipping.
P.M me if you want one.

Glen,

That free vend cable is great.  One heck of a nice little innovation.

Well,
Couldnt stand it not working so I made a contact out of 22g solid copper.  Also wired a momentary switch in paralel for free vend (Sorry Moondawg, yours look really nice but I have tons of electrical parts laying around). Disconnected the Electro magnets since they seem to fail first.  Im searching for a coinco but the ones I found on ebay are either $80 or Unknown if working.  At least with the fix I have time to find a coinco at a price im willing to pay.  Now..... to start working on getting rid of that smell.........

Incredible, mailed USPS Wednesday from Calif, arrived in Michigan Friday, WOW!

Forgot to include your velcro strips so they went out yesterday and I guess you'll get them tomorrow although I assume you don't need them now huh?

I wasn't sure if you were including the velcro but I had some in the junk drawer.  I will return the velcro for a $20 refund or a credit towards the new chrome version!  :tounge:

The thing works great.  Now I just have to locate one of those tandem plugs so I can hook it up along with th coin mech.  That way the kids still pay and I get mine for free!

Hey Tim - did you find a source for a tandem plug?  I would love to set it up so that my wife and I can free-vend but prevent my boys from going hog-wild when we aren't home.    :veryangry:
