Re-read what Mike stated about knobs, that's why the wide bottle door?   What do they do?

Glen on a USS-64 the door is wider than a CSS 64. They have a knob for each selection that you rotate and it plops out the selection. It is just a different way for the slant shelf to vend to allow the machine to dispense cans. I would post a pic for you but I am on my Moms computer.

Josh I sent you a picture that you can use for the pic of the vending unit on the USS machines.  For some reason my computer is not allowing me to post any picture.  '<img'>  '<img'>  '<img'>

I cheated... here's the link from the machine section of the site...

USS 8-64 machine

In the picture of the machine open, you'll see a row of knobs to the right of the vending openings.  To vend, you rotate those knobs, which causes a can/bottle to vend into the opening.  You then can reach in to get to the can.  When the machine is closed, when you look through the glass what you see is the row of knobs.  Each knob has a sitcker location for the soda label.  The side of the door where the cans are retrieved is blocked from view.

It's really a neat machine, very nice size and can vend quite a bit.

Well, my cheat link didn't work as intended... to find the picture, select the link along the left side for Cavalier, then scroll across the top to the USS-64.  That's our baby!  Sorry about any unintended confusion --

You know, probably shouldn't say this but... why in the heck would someone post a picture to sell a machine with as nasty of a tub bottom as this machine has?  You can just feel the rust in your bones....

Actually, also looks like a sticky slick of soda-syrup  ':p'
the bottom of the liner/tank of most machines will usually have some surface rust, but letting a puddle sit on the bottom, (caused by a plugged drain) will rust out the metal quickly, especially around the screws that hold the evaporator housing to the tank bottom, and from there it'll turn into a "wet blanket" of insulation underneath the liners floorpan & rot the machine from the inside out....
