Title: Pepsi Gullwing
Post by: Slapshot42 on December 17, 2015, 10:50:14 pm
Unloaded this one tonight was lurking on Craigslist for about a week seller was motivated to sell!!!  Missing the shelves in the inside and the cap catcher.  A lot bigger than I remember haven't seen one in a few years!

Even has a bullet hole glad they missed the embossing!

This is one is NOT refrigerated!!

Spent a little time on this one over the last few days.  Out of many machines I've taken appart this one has been difficult with a lot of the fasteners rusted solid!!  PB Blaster and a propane torch didn't even cut the rust!  Next up is oxy accetalne torch!

As I started to work in this I discovered that it was actually the refrigerated version as I tilled the machine on its back I saw the cooling lines.  I had a friend pickup so never really noticed.

The cooling lines are soldered to the tub just like a Ideal 55. Removing the liner was a absolute bear took almost an hour. Very little rust...

Great cooler/machine. Are you going to add the cooling system back to it or restore as a cooler?

Was the tub galvanized or coated with something else originally?

A couple more pictures after the blasting and some powder coating.  I will have to straighten out the liner a little bit before installing the tub gasket.  I decided on a more solid gray rather than a silver gloss.  I've used silver gloss before and it's almost looked too bright!

Hand painted lettering was completed yesterday .  Was also able to get the lower pedestal bolted back on and install the casters.  Hoping to get it insulated and the liner installed.  It's been very hot her so I've been lacking some motivation...

The weather has definitely been favorable the last week or so .  Made a little progress getting most of the cabinet finished.

The gasket isn't exactly correct so I have decide if I want to glue it on or use screws. Haven't decided I don't want the head of the screws to ruin the inside of the lids when they are closed. The old gasket was channeled for the breaker strip to fit inside of it

The main lid hinges, and the ( 2 ) lid prop hinges and the wire rack shelves are being reproduced by one of the site sponsors " Soda Jerk Works".  As soon as they are made the machine will be finished.

If you are looking for any of those parts they should be available soon.

Jared

Making some steady progress over the last few weeks.  I ended up using a 3M Weather Gasket Adhesive for the body gasket.  It made the installation process very easy rather than screw the gasket down and the screw head being exposed.

I had the tear drop opener nickel plated which I think was well worth the investment.  I have installed the one reproduction shelf to check for accuracy and they will soon be available through one of the site sponsors.  I also modified the drain slightly so a valve can easily be opened and close for draining since this is the ice version.  A small section of hose is screwed on to the valve for easy draining .

Finished installing the side art thank to "coinopgullwing" for making up a kit.  He was able to trace the original ones and to get the most original look into a format for printing on vinyl.
