I had posted asking what the value was and got further down in the categories and saw these posts.  :jawdrop: I was kind of freaking when the poster said he was sending his wife by. I was glad I was off today when the guy called.

Audio... got to stop by Randy's... (wife was asleep in the car)
saw your 44 and junior! Man he has a lot of cool stuff there... did you see the embossed
Pabst cooler? Never seen a beer cooler embossed... heck... never seen a floor model beer cooler ever.
Looked alot like a Westinghouse master or a Quikold... embossed on the front and back panels.
Front panel was enclosed all the way to where the back panel was open underneath for empty
cases..... Would love to see it restored... a rare one for sure.

Here's the Vendo 56 I picked up. I was really lucky in that I was the 1st one to respond to his Craiglist ad. In addition he never posted his location or phone number. I was the 1st one he called and gave him all my contact numbers. And then I waited and waited and then I saw someone else's previous post here that they were having thier wife run the money over to get the machine. I thought for a second that I had misread the seller and our 1/2 hour conversation was a waste. I really felt like he had let me down (I know I'm naive.) I cut out of work today at 3pm went over with the directions he gave me and sat on his porch in the scorching heat (To beat traffic, he lives one state over) for 2 hours. He pulled up and he turned out to be the gentleman I thought he was. He never bothered responding to the other Emails. I was one lucky sonofabeotch. The seller was one class act and I let him know that this was more valuable than what he was selling it for. I asked him what was wrong with the compressor. He said it had been sitting for 30 + years and it was 300 feet from the house. His uncle had left him the house and machine 20 years ago. He assumed because it was in the shed it was bad. The only thing missing was 1 rack. Drain tube & condensation pan....everything else there! Guess what, it works fine and with an old dime the coin mech works. This is a find I always read about but never get.......until today. And to the seller Mike, I owe you Bud!

Score one for the Midwest as Eric say's! The bottle door has dried up masking tape that's over 30 years old. Gotta get that off without damaging the paint. I'm going to try that soapy not toxic crap that you soak on car mldgs to get the adhesive off. We'll see.

The fan struggled for a second. I let it run for about 5 minutes and the line got cold and started to frost. That was enough for me for now. It will obviously need new wiring and who knows maybe a thermostat. This one will be a keeper. The Glasco I just rewired cooled after at least 10 years of sitting. Happens all the time. I always find out that that's the case with old sliders or Vendo 83s  :D

Great score MO-Buddy! nice to see the Midwest gets a bone thrown to us from time to time....
(Just hope they don't dry up now)
ALSO... I have the craiglist as a favorite at work will be hitting that every break now! :)
Gotta believe there's a Stoner and a Wayne 60 waiting for me.

Great Find on the RT 56... Great machines... I love mine...
Compressors are an amazing thing... My Jacobs 26 was sitting in a barn/shed for 30 some years when I found it.. Plugged it in to test it , had to give the fan motor a little nudge and blast of wd 40 and the thing cooled down to 30 degrees in 30 minutes... and that was with Bad gaskets and air leaking out everwhere... Amazing how these things can hold refrigerant!

great Score... now we need a Big Score for the "UPPER" Midwest!!!!

Well the seller did reply to some emails, He was in Granite City IL. Tried, but hard to do as I'm OTR driver that was in CA at the time.  Glad to see that you got it, and not some one going to flip it on ebay.

Title: Vendo 23 i think
Post by: audiobeer on August 04, 2006, 01:29:45 pm
Thanks Charlie. I'm definitely not going to flip it. Go ahead and Email Mike again and he will tell you I was the 1st to Email him.  When he did call back almost 24 hours later and we struck a deal I would have gone right then and there to get it but it was my wifes birthday. I didn't want to be on her %$#@ list.  I don't ever mention that I am after a particular machine here on the boards till I lost it or passed on it. That was one #### of a night sweating over whether the seller was a man of his word or not. He was but you gotta know I did not read your post and go after it. I have the Craigslist bookmarked at work and at home. Some of my finds (Not Coke related) were because I refreshed the screen and saw something and got the 1st email in. Once responded to I jump in my van and get it. In this case I emailed him 1/2 hour after he posted the ad. I wanted to insure that it wouldn't get away so I offered a Cardinal Baseball Neon sign and told him if he would hold it for me I would give him that, providing the machine was complete.

You are lucky Audio.... I think I would have turned it...
Craiglist is a favorite of mine now too Ha... you guys have me believing now.
I'm just gonna hunt for a Stoner and a Wayne 60 though (wow how many times can
I stress those two items...)

Tough collecting this stuff especially when you have someone you know living close...
I gotta a close friend that collects Orange Crush and advertising stuff... it's both fun and
stressful when we “go hunting” together.... he goes down one isle at a junk store and I down
another isle..... sometimes I picked the right isle and a few times he picked the right isle. :(
Charlie your machine is out there! Hang in there....
About 10 years ago I went to look at a Vendo 44... As his wife let me into the kitchen
he was hanging up with the “new owner”..... I missed it by minutes!!!!!! Aghhhhhhhh!!!

And to make it worse... it was complete, straight and $450!

Oh the saga of "the one that got away"...
If I didn't know better, I'd swear I was listening to old fishing stories...

Title: Vendo 23 i think
Post by: Eric on August 04, 2006, 09:37:25 pm
Ha! I wish they were stories (but have been on a few of those too... only to end up too far gone
to restore or not even close to what I was looking for) What really hurts... the guy who had the 44... He works for the County... so he is always on the back roads. He had (True story Jim)
a Wayne 60 and a Tokheim (39 or 300, don't remember) anyway went to his place to look
at a Coke Westinghouse junior and said those two pumps were for sale... wanted $150 FOR BOTH!
I PASSED!!!!!! I thought who would want those.... Who?.... ME!!!!! now...... Aghhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!

ok...

Anyone else remember at the Chicago show when it was on both sides of the road there?
Use to be a guy would set up on the little lot across the main lot.... nothing but pumps....
cheap! would be like $150-$300 each.... those days are Loooonnnngg gone! :(

Well  gotta go... gonna check the craiglist :)

Yes and all of the machines I have seen of his are simple and correct. They are not covered in pin striping or aftermarket hand and bottles or sprite boys. Some decals on some machines look good but for most coke machines I think they did it right from the factory. Although I have to say I am guilty of using decals on some machines as that is what usually sells.

Looks great and I agree with you Josh,
Original is the way to go,, unless the customer wants the bells and whistles added to it...

Yes it looks great - keep it as original as possible.  I agree with Josh 100%    Nothing I hate more than a giant "10 cents" sticker in the middle of a machine - my 2 cents...

Outstanding job...however, I did notice that it looks a little crowded there. I would be willing to store the machine for you - and at no charge.  :Oo:

thats funny as that is the request I get most from my customers... almost every 81 or 39 I've done , that big ol 10cents or 5 cents is requested... much more than sprite boy decals or any other decals, stickers, etc...
so I stock plenty of them and 9 of out 10 customers want em...?

Title: Re: Vendo 23 i think

I totally agree but I have been guilty of it before. On some square tops I like a few decals as they can be a little plain without them.
