I called the guy who bought it and he doesn't sound like a collector, just a guy who wanted a machine for the garage... I offered him a chance to make some money on it and he said he'd think about it and I have to call him back on Friday after he spends some time look over the machine, I'm hopeing it has some "issues" that he will not know what to do and he'll think dumping it back on me for $150 bucks would be a good deal... or he could spend the time reasearching the machine if there is an id tag on it and find out what the value is on an unrestored machine... but we'll see.. wish me luck! I like the trade idea, so if he is stuck on haveing a machine in the garage I'll gladly offer up a Cav 64 or Vendolater 56... Good thinking..  :'>

I am now going garage sailing tomorrow morning! Man what a deal that guy got. Its off topic but I once bought a bamboo fly rod at a garage sale from the 1930's for 15 bucks. Turned out to be worth $1200.

sorry to keep you guys hanging... ended up going to a swap meet up in Grand rapids MN Saturday.. Found out about it Friday Evening and buddy and I talke the wives into letting us go, so up at 2:30am! and on the road by 3AM for the 3 hour drive. I didn't get back till late last nite.. picked up a Nice Tokhiem pump, A small stainless Coke Picnic Cooler and a nice 1940's US Tires Sign... Photos will follow later on another post.
BACK to the 75 dollar Vendo 81... I did talk with guy on Friday nite... Let's just say he is not the most ambitious guy in the world which is good cause I don't think he's spending hours researching this machine he has.
Friday around 7pm, he had'nt even unloaded it from his truck, he said he was going to that nite and plug it in... I Told him that he shouldn't run it right away after it was laying on it's back and to let it sit for about overnight. SO with that said we don't even know if it works, which could be good as he will want to get rid of it.. and maybe even get it less? but who knows.
I did tell him I would like to buy it and did not lead on about knowing much about them... he wanted me to call him after the weekend.... So that is where I'm at.. .I'm here, waiting hopeing and will call him on monday.

Well Sorry havent' checked in a while but can't seem to get logged in and for some reason got in through the old way tonite.. Great looking site and I'm sure Jim will get it working right soon.. Anyway just wanted to update that this is NOT Dead yet... the guy who has it is just not too motivated to do anything with it yet.. i sent him some photos of a V56 ST that he might be interested in trading? and I've said numerous times why dont' i just come over and buy it from you... he just is not too motivated.... so that is where this stands... We'll still working on this deal but the guy has done some homework and told me today he believes the machine has some more value than $75.00 and he can't seem to make up his mind on the V56 st I want to trade him... so I asked him again what's his best cash price and he came back with $600...  I asked him where he got that number from, playing dumb and said he's checked around .. I said how bout $400... he is thinking on that .. I think I know the answer to this question but is this machine still worth $400 -$600  I guess I still think so...as I'm sure it's an 81b Thoughts |

Yes. Don't wait too long. If he really gets his *ss moving and really does some checking, will the price go up even more?? Maybe he will counter with $500, but $600 sounds pretty good to me. The tough part to get past is that you know he paid $75.

I hate to say it, but lay low for a week or two. If you keep calling now, he'll think he has his retirement sitting in his garage. $600 is still a good price, but you don't want him Googling Vendo's and seeing the prices for completed tore down and restored units.

Thanks for all the advice as I knew I still wanted the machine for $600. I offered him $500 this afternoon and he said to call back tonite... So it's tonite and I called the guy around 8pm and asked what time can I come by and look at it... it's 2 hours away so wanted to make sure I would be taking it home before driving... He says he finally got my email with the photo of the V56st that I offered as part of the deal and he didn't like it . (who can blame him). He says he talked with the girlfriend and she likes it and doesn't want to sell it...I said I'd give him the $600 cash for it first thing in the morning (ready to jump in my car at 4am) he says no he wants to keep it as it's growing on him.. and a friend of his old him "These old Nesbitts machines are very rare"!!  so he wants to keep it and use it... This guy doesn't even know what he's got yet.. it's got a metal Nesbitts sign tacked to the front over the embossed Coke Logo!!! I of course kept this to myself and said please write down my number and put it in the machine and when the time comes that you want to sell it or it breaks down, CALL ME!!! and my offer of $600 stands! he said OK and we left it at that! I wanted to reach out through the phone and choke the guy... but I held back.. figuring OK... Maybe down the road he'll realize he'd like to get $600 fast ,,, like when he has to buy a ring for the girlfriend of his!! So we have to chalk this up to "Gave it my best"!!! Wish I had better news.. but I am working on another deal as we speak for another machine that will take away some of the pain and will post about it when i get more details tomorrow!!! Stay Tuned!!! |

Well you gave it your best try, that's all you can do. Sad thing is from the sounds of this guy nothing will ever get done. Hope he has it inside at least. I would call back towards the end of next month when rent and bills are due and see what he says then.
