Title: What's this????
Post by: davethebirdman on March 30, 2006, 04:55:19 pm
I picked my Jacobs up today. The chap I bought it from had a lot of other coca cola stuff. He got it all from a prop company. Anyway, he put most of it, picnic coolers etc on Ebay and somebody came along and made him an offer on the lot.

All apart from one item that he didn't want. Some sort of Dispencer. Does anyone have any idea what it is and whether its worth anything. I'm not going to buy it but I'd like to tell the owner something about it and its worth.

By the way, the bloke that bought the lot was eying up my Jacobs and was desperately trying to get the seller to sell it to him. I'd left a £50.00 deposit and even though the seller was offered lots more than I bought the machine for he couldn't be budged. There are some decent people out there.

Here's some pictures. The only thing I can add is it weighs a ton has a metal container inside and is missing a stand.

Dave,
It looks like a Dole Deluxe.
If the price is right...I am interested.    But unfortunately, I am not sure what the right price is.  I don't know much about them yet.  What is he asking or has he said.

Jeff

Wonderful Coca-Cola dispensers. I love the first one, made by Dole way back in the day.
Nicknamed the outboard motor or motorboat model because it looks like one.
If he doesn't want much for it, I would totally grab it. I have always wanted one.

Kito & Jeff

I think he wants £200.00 for it. Not sure what that is exactly in dollars. About $320.00 maybe. I know it weighs a fair bit and there is no stand with it.

Much as I would like it I just haven't got the funds to stretch.

If anyone wants it here I am happy to pop down and pick it up and post it for you. I'd be happy to do that for anyone here. You'd pay exactly what I'd pay. Its the least I could do...

firemun and Dave,
Thanks so much for being so kind, but I should have been more clear. When I said , "I'd grab it", I meant if I were you.

I totally want one, and I will keep looking for one, but only locally.

So please, feel free to go for it, I am not in the running for it. But very nice of you to be willing to make it happen for me. Firemun, it's yours if you want it. But my suspicion is that someday you will find it for cheaper (especially with the shipping and all) somewhere closer to you.

But thank you again guys.

Dave,
You will find lots of great syrup dispenser info at our resident dispensers expert Steve's (racerx45) website.
He has an amazing collection. Check the Coca-Cola page here:

http://www.sonic.net/adcom/DC/DC.htm

And the other flavored dispensers here:

http://www.sonic.net/adcom/DC/DCother.htm

I'm sure Steve would be happy to answer any questions you have.
But please don't blame me when these sites start up a whole new collection and addiction for you.

Kito or anyone

Are these things electrical??? How do they work???

Dave

Title: What's this????
Post by: Eric on March 31, 2006, 11:15:44 am
Not electrical... They were connected to seiltzer type tanks
RacerX would know the correct names and funtions (As you can see he has a few :) ) Bases pop up from time to time on eBay...
Also missing the the front splash and cup holder and there
are other pieces that go on the inside it may be missing. It's
priced a little too high I think with all that's missing...
Here is my Dole Super (Which I got parts to complete it
from Glen!!!! ) It's a couple years newer the Delux, which is that model he has.

Hi Eric

Thanks for the info. I was thinking that if nobody else wanted it I might try and exchange a few bits and pieces to get it.

I'd want it to display so I guess without the stand its pretty useless. What else from the inside is missing??? All there was was the tank.

What am I doing...... Haven't I got enough to be going on with. A pump in pieces and a Jacobs taking up room in the garage. Come on someone talk me out of this I don't need it.......

..........a V-39 with the compressor removed?

Title: What's this????
Post by: Eric on March 31, 2006, 02:03:52 pm
If you can trade for it... Go for it.... They are cool.... I have three dispensers and that's my limit...
(I think) But a base would run about a $100 on ebay
and the little splash guard and grate are darn near impossible to find though
a collector by the name Jay Boeher (Last name spelling.... sorry Jay)
may have all the pieces you need... about a year ago splash guard and grate was running $150.

There is also a plunger type rod in the innder tank.... which are missing often also.
How is the logo/disc on the back of that model?.. Chrome framed round piece...
Sometimes those are missing too...

Title: What's this????
Post by: Eric on March 31, 2006, 02:06:29 pm
You could make a base and paint it with Hammertone... I've seen a couple for sale on eBay that way.... Until a base shows or doner dispenser pops up.

Title: What's this????
Post by: davethebirdman on March 31, 2006, 02:38:59 pm
Eric

you are right, the round piece is missing too.

Hopefully Jeff will want it then I won't have this problem.

I don't know. I just see it sitting there on top of my V-39 which, by the way now has its compressor
back where it should be. On a mat of course (before you start Kito)

Yes better to pass on this... a lot missing... unless you can get a really, really good deal.
I don't know how many are on your side over there...
So where the pictures of the Jacobs!!!!!! Great machine... glad you got it!

Will post pictures of the Jacobs just as soon as I can. That's where my money needs to go..

Yeah I need to walk my talk I have way way to many projects.... I love the hunt
but once it's found it's on to the next prize... But it's hard when this stuff is so hard to find.
I would rather set it all aside to restore later but then when you guys finish a machine
it makes me want to tear into one and finish one.
Right now on my want list is Wayne 60, Stoner Jr, Pepsi and/or 7up Quikold Standard....
Then I think I could be content for a while.... Quite a while actually.

Dave,
Based on Eric's comments on price and pieces missing etc...I better pass on this.  I appreciate your offer to help.

Thanks,
jeff

Jeff

that's no problem... I liked the idea that I might have been able to return
some of the very good will that has come my way over the last 18 mths.
Pitty the other bits are missing. It was owned by a prop company so they probably just
threw them away.

Dave

I don't think is was the prop company that threw the base away.

Hey Dave-
The Dole Deluxe is a nice dispenser to have; it is not as popular as the Dole Super and tends to sell for less. As for the one in your pictures the price is ok only because you won’t have to pay to have it shipped from the states. I have seen a few in similar condition sell on eBay for about that price. As for missing parts the only thing inside that I can’t see if it is there is the plunger that goes inside the syrup tank. The base is not a big deal as it is the same as the ones used on the Dole Super and Citation so finding one isn’t too hard. The three parts that are very hard to find are the “Have A Coke” medallion, the cup holder and the drip tray. I know of a few medallions that have sold for more than $200 each.
So I know you said you are going to pass on it but if it has the medallion you may want to at least think about it some more.
Let me know if you have more questions about it.
Now lets move on to the Glasco dispenser in your second post. What’s the story on that one? Is he selling it too? I would love to see some more pictures of it. Any more info on it would be great. Thanks,
Steve

Dave,

I, like Steve, would like more info on the Glasco Syrup Dispenser...
Can you provide a model number and possibly acquire additional photos for use on SMC...?

Steve & Jim

I think that the second dispencer the Glasco one went in with other bits and pieces
and was sold as a lot. I'll e-mail the chap tonight to see if he still has it and if can take a better picture of it.

Steve - If it were for sale would you be interested. Like always I am more than happy to pick it up and ship it as cheap as I can at exactly the price it costs me. You just have to bear in mind the shipping costs.

Dave

Right

Have e-mailed the chap and await his reply.

Steve, my nterest in the dole deluxe has again been re-ignited. I am certain that it is missing its medalion. The thing on the back but I'm not too worried about that.

How difficult & pricy would it be to obtain the remaining parts so that it could be displayed. The one on your website looks great. Weight too. Is the stand anywhere near as heavy as the dispencer.

Cheers

Dave

RacerX45... Would Jay B. have extra parts for that Dole?... He's the only one I know that had
extra parts for these... But I don't have his number anymore.

Title: What's this????
Post by: racerx45 on April 04, 2006, 05:47:43 pm
Dave-
Yes I would be interest in buying the Glasco, but I am guessing that the price plus shipping it to the west coast will be more than it is wroth. Let me know if it is for sale and what he is asking I can go from there.
As for the parts needed for the Deluxe they don’t weigh much compared to the dispenser body. If it is just for display the base, cup holed and drip tray from a Super or Citation will work and pop up for sale a lot. If you need it soon I can get you in touch with Jay Booher, he should have all of the parts (maybe the medallion too). If you can wait; I see complete Citations sell pretty cheap (sometime less than the value of the parts). Let me know if you have any other questions.

Eric-
Yes Jay should have “extra” parts for the Dole dispensers. I know he has been selling off a lot of parts lately and don’t know what he is hanging onto. I do know that he wants to keep up his dispenser collection and is trying to move the picnic coolers and machines first, so not sure what he is willing to sell off in the dispenser category.

If I did manage to secure the dispencer I would be looking at it as a longer term project so there would be no rush trying to get the other bits. I just needed to know that they were available and that they wouldn't break the bank trying to get hold of them.

Still no reply from the seller, will let you know as soon as I get a reply.

Glen

I quite agree with you. I have never seen a dispenser in action, other than the electric ones. I don't think that Coke had a great hold on the English Market during the 1950's.

Steve said he might be interested and as he collects dispensers I thought it prudent to mention that it was empty within.

Back to my original statement - Pre Electric how did the dispenser work?? Or was it just a vessel to hold the liquid.

Dave

Dave...
That base won't work... too early.... I'm looking for you also.. one will pop up.
Call that Jay B. guy that RacerX45 knows...
The pressure of the seltzer tanks is what made these work
(I think) it shot through these dispensers.. the small inner tank was filled with the Coca-Cola syrup that was kept cool by ice that was in the surrounding tank you just sat the glass underneath and the employee just pushed/pulled the nozzle releasing the syrup and seltzer water at the same time mixing into the glass filled with ice.... and presto! a glass of Coke....
Or something like that...

Eric

I am afraid to report that the Dispenser is still to be secured. It was promised to another but that other has been having second thoughts. Then I had a bit of a wobble myself with all the other projects I have on the go.

I negociated a swap for a Seeburg 3W1 only to find that the wife had promised that to her sister. So at the moment I'm in limbo. If the original buyer does decline then I am going to have to think seriously about how much I want it. With parts missing, dents & a new paint job do I really need to add that to the list??

My head says most definately NO (as does the wife) My heart says, "You fool grab the chance while you can."

What do you all reckon. I have another 3W1, my very last that I could still swap. Is it worth it. A wallbox that is in fantastic condition and works perfectly for a dispenser missing vital parts. "Answers on a postcard plse." (Not sure if that last bit translates. Any help gratefully appreciated)

Dave

Title: What's this????
Post by: racerx45 on April 11, 2006, 04:30:19 pm
Dave-
Yes that did translate. I would say you have asked all the right questions. As for it (the dispenser) not working all of mine will just be for display so not working isn’t a big deal. As for the parts missing only the medallion is going to be hard to find. The only thing left to answer is 1. How much do you want it, 2. what are the chances you will come across another one and 3. will you ever look back and think “Dam I should have take that when I had the chance”.
I would not feel like I had missed a great deal on that one. Complete dispensers are out there and show up for sale.

FYI
Here are the three different bases that fit the Dole Deluxe, Super and Citation.

The rail type is the most common.

Title: What's this????
Post by: racerx45 on April 11, 2006, 05:58:59 pm
Dave-
You had asked how the dispenser worked earlier. Well here is the “short” version.

The post mix dispensers worked with 4 main parts
1.   Syrup Tank
2.   Valve
3.   Cold Plate
4.   Ice compartment
First thing you would do is add the syrup and ice and then connect the carbonated water source. On early dispensers they used a carbonation pump that carbonated and then pumped the water into the dispenser. Later they used a pressurize tank that would supply carbonated water.
Now to make your Ice Cold Coke you simply fill a glass with ice, place it under the valve and pull the handle. Gravity allows the syrup to flow thru the valve into the glass. The valve is designed to flow the correct ratio of water to syrup. The ice both keeps the syrup cold and to cool the water as it passes thru the clod plate. And that all there is to it :drinkers:

BTW They are called Post Mix dispensers because the water and syrup don’t mix until they are in the glass.

Okay

Have now secured the Dispencer. $165.00 which I think is a good price. Would have cost me that to have the item shipped from the US.

What I need to do now is get hold of the missing parts. Don't suppose anyone out there has a stand lying around that they'd like to sell me. Have been watching ebay but haven't seen anything.

Thanks

Yes is should fit. I can’t say for sure but an original base will fit both dispensers so I would think this one should work as well. You should be able to find and original base for about $75 or so. That base looks ok but I would wait and get a correct one, if it was $25 I would get just to put on it until I found the correct one.

Managed to combine a trip to the sister-in-law's with picking up the dispensers yesterday.

The Dole Deluxe is in much better shape than I recall it being. In fact over the month of so that it has been since I picked up my Jjacobs the image I had of the Dole is nothing like what it is in real life. I imagined lots of knocks and dents but now that I have it home its in great condition and it even has the medalion which I would have bet a £1000 was not there when I saw it last.

Here are some pictures.
