Title: ideal 55 service ports?
Post by: jtoenges on December 17, 2014, 12:50:09 pm
I have read previous posts on Ideal 55s and have some questions on the cooling system. My present project has a cooling system that works before I tore the machine down to have it refinished. I would like to know the following if I could.

I am refinishing my Ideal 55 cooling system.  It is a 1/4hp tecumseh compressor.  I have read previous posts talking about Ideal 55's having service ports to recharge  the system.  I don't know what these are or where to find them.  I was hoping all I had to do is recharge the system but don't know how to do it

Do these systems need to have a dryer added?  I know they have some sort of filter already on them but do you recommend adding a dryer?  What kind and where would you put a dryer?

Is there a way to keep the copper coils in close contact with the galvanized inner tub?

Will freeze12 be a good refrigerant?  How much does an Ideal 55 need?

no problem, I'm way back-logged, so I just don't have the time to play "paint by the numbers" (refrigeration repair & reassembly step by step) with a newbie at this point.

Very nice machine by the way.

The nice thing about other members that may have the time!

Maybe Eric at Global Compressors might be able to give you a little help.

Did a great job for me on a Cavalier C-55-E compressor.

If you removed the liner, coils, floor pan and compressor through the top, you just clean up the compressor and re-install the same way. No need to change freon in a working system.
If you broke the fitting loose on the copper line at the compressor base already, then you have found the service port too.
