I'm hopefully picking this up in the next day or so,...  '<img'>

It's gonna need a bit of work, but I should be able to make it work. I'll have some more pics when I get it home...

Awesome!.... As anything... you'll be able to find any part you need... Sure someone here Has “Been there done that” with jukes too! Hope all goes well! Looks like a early 60s AY? model.
I had one something like it.... Long gone... '<img'>
Should have kept it.... but needed parts for the 39 behind it.

Q160 Seeburg..... 1959 ish...   My father has the same one that he just got finished refurbing... I'll dig up a pic... I believe it holds 80 records and plays A & B sides. This one right now does not pick a selection... it just hunts. My fathers did the same thing, so hopefully we should be able to make it work. I'm cautiously excited. I've had a thing for this model, probably cause I lived with it for 10 years or so...The guy seemed real cool on the phone, and I told him I wanted it. He said he would hold it for me. I'm kinda confused on his price though-- its pretty cheap I think and the guy seems to know something about jukes... I am going to try to grab it tomorrow, but scheduling is tight.  Saturday we are supposed to get killed with rain...

Ken,

If you do get the juke and are in the need of a manual, I may be able to help put together a manual from my set of Seeburg manuals. I have original sets from the "Trashcan" (I forget the model number(s)) era up to the early 60's. My set did have models into the 70's & 80's but I bartered those away for pinball repairs several years back...

Well, I got it home, and I can honestly think that I got the deal I have been waiting for... This machine is incredibly clean, chrome is in very good shape with minimal pitting. Unfortunately, the paint has flaked off the glass in many spots, and to make it look really pretty, the 2 pieces of glass will need to be replaced. The guy I bought it from only had it for about 6 months and was waiting for some buddies to help him get it running. He finally gave up. I see a few tubes missing from the board to start with. It has 3 speakers, but only one amp, so its not the stereo model. I'll post some pics in the morning...

Your juke looks like it is stereo.
You may want to look around Victory's website and magazine ads.  A lot of the time they will run specials right before the Chicagoland show - even if you mail order it.  T minus 2 weeks to The Show!

It says stereo at the top of the juke - wouldn't this mean that it IS a stereo juke? Maybe it is just missing an amp? I do not know enough about them to be more informed.
Good deal anyway though - congrats!

I thought it was stereo as well, but from the little bit I've found so far is that one amp means mono, 2 amps would be stereo... If you look at the pic of the door, the blank plate is covering where the 2nd amp would go. Unless its under the cover and different that the first amp.

I also noticed that it says 33 1/3 by where it says Stereo. Does this mean it plays the full size 33 1/3 RPM LP's? I believe there are some small (45 size) 33 1/3 records out there, but they certainly are not as common as the 45 RPM.

you mean there are mags for this stuff

I subscribe to Gameroom Magazine.  There is a new publisher so there are good and bad changes that he is making.  It's now in full color, and it is kind of going away from its roots of all coin-op stuff.
I used to subscribe to Always Jukin (mid 80's until a year ago).  I got tired of paying for their "catalog."  About 1/3 of the magazine is ads for products that they are selling.  You will also only find a couple articles in each issue.
There is also Jukebox Collector Magaine. I have seen a few issues and it seems like a nice publication.
Gameroom Magazine also sells a large number of books too!
You can find the mini (7 inch, 33 1/3) albums on ebay and in antique stores.  You might run in to some trouble with them though.  Some models of jukes have to have a whole section (or more) dedicated to the mini's and they sometimes don't work.  My Rock-Ola is supposed to play them, but it won't.

To ask a stupid question.. How does the mech find where each track starts on the lp ? (unless they're all singles ?)

I know when you play an LP that you can tell where the tracks start from the deeper grooves, but how does one do this mechanically ?

Chris

P.S. $150 ?? I'm envious !!  I figured jukes were about 5x that !

There's no such as a single stereo amp then ? If it's stereo, what happens with the third speaker ?  (a mix of left and right channels or what ?)

(Just guessing here) Maybe the third speaker is the bass?

With the mini albums, it plays the whole side.  I think there are 3 or 4 songs on each side.  The person also has to put in more money to play an album.
Looking over at the price window of the wallbox here in the computer room...
ALBUMS
Quarter 1 side
Half Dollar 2 sides & 1 single
SINGLES
Half Dollar 7 plays
Quarter 3 plays
Dime-2 Nickels 1 play
Ahhhhh......those were the days!  '<img'>

Yep, Its just the control back to the main juke or hideaway. Bit difficult trying to squash 50 45's and a mech into the back of those wallboxes.

A hideaway has the same insides as a normal jukebox (Mech, amp etc ) but no selection
buttons and its stuffed into a very non descript box. Used in diners etc where the owner
wires up as many wallboxes as he can to run from it. From an owners point of view wallboxes are good money makng machines. If three customers select the same song it will only play it once. Three times the money for one selection.

Its now possible to buy an interface to connect a wallbox to a computer. You can now choose exactly what track you want for your selections. I have one running in my gamesroom. You would never know the difference.

Sounds like a neat feature..  I take it there were specific models of jukes it could be used on ?

Any idea how the communication worked ? (pulses of electricty to signal which selection, etc ?)

Most wallboxes were hard-wired and did utilize pulses similar to older phone technology to perform the selection. If my memory serves me, most used a three conductor cable for the interconnect.
There are systems that use wireless technology as well, Seeburg and Wurlitzer come to mind but there could be a few other manufacturers.
Some of the Wurlitzer wireless units are from the early 1940s. I have a manual on the early wireless units from Wurlitzer and really thought this is advanced technology for jukeboxes.

Man, I have soo much to learn abou this stuff... I noticed the 33 1/3rd, but I figured it was the wrong glass for the machine. The records in it are 45's now. I did see something about slowing down the rpms as an option for this machine. but I thought it would have been full sized albums... I need some sites to look at for these things.. My wife told me I can't touch this thing until I redo my family room. Its project I've been putting off for over a year because its gonna be a PITA. Last night, we had a party and one of my buddies is a demolition guy... he will be over with a crew in 2 weeks to rip my fireplace apart and cut a trench in my floor '<img'>

I have a Rockola that can play at 33. It pushes down levers on the turntable and
slows the speed down. I 've never been able to get it to work poperly.

I Know that lots of restorers never invested time in ensuring that this worked when they
overhauled a machine because there has never been much need for it.

Jim is definately right asbout the pulses. Its three wires for the Seeburg 3W1. Hardwired into the stepper unit in the juke.

I think Seeburg were the only ones to provide a stepper as part of the juke package. The other three provided it as an add on. The 3W1 was also very versatile in that it could be wired up with a little bit of knowledge to most other jukes of that era. That's why there are so many more 3W1 wallboxes around than any other make.

The gadget that sits between the wallbox and the PC converts the pulses into selections. Very clever, specially if you don't have the space for a full blown juke.

Bubba

I got it off a friend of mine here in the UK. I have a prototype which I tested for him. Still works well.

I can get in contact with him and see if he is actually at the stage of selling them yet, if you like. Otherwise there is a website www.cdadapter.com I think that does something similar but runs off a 100 CD Player.

I have enclosed a picture of the gadget. The two wires run to the wallbox and connect up to create the pulse. The box changes the pulse into something the PC can read and its all connected via a mouse.

Let me know if your mate is interested. I don't think they are very expesive but he will need a working wallbox. A 3W1 your side should set him back a couple of hundred dollars. I picked up four once that had been sitting around for over 20 yrs. Plugged them all in and all four worked great.

I have a stand alone PC operating on W98 using Windows Media Player, I think. There is a CD room containing software to put the whole thing together. I can even make a slection which will random play or will canx the current tune.

I put my PC speakers into some drive in movie speaker cases and hey presto, nobody would ever know. I've got a old laptop that I just need a extrnal CD drive for and then I'm going to set it up in my downstairs toilet so guests can chose a tune whilst they take a moment.

I'll try and connact the person tonight. Someone else has also expressed an interest.. It goes without saying that whatever he charges me is what you pay.
