Finding a Coke 81D isn't so much a problem as finding one at a decent price...

FWIW, we recently bought a complete original for $3,000. Paid a little more than what we wanted but it was close by and saved on the shipping. It needs restoration and we plan to do it ourselves when time permits.

Restoring America...1 machine at a time!

« Reply #5 on: December 23, 2011, 04:07:22 pm »

So does everyone else. There are plenty of machines out there for sale. Everybody wants them for $1500 or less which is very hard to find. I just sold a complete working 81D for $2400 which I thought was a a good deal in today's market. If you find one close and complete for $2000-$2500 then go for it.

Those are unrestored prices, correct?

There is a 81D for sale in Bel Air, Maryland, asking price is 1800.  Seller's name is Bruce, 410-456-3784 is his cell number.  Machine looks complete, he says it cools etc, seems like a nice guy, just a little more than I want to spend if anyone is interested.  Good Luck.  M

Anyone know what a nice restored 81-D is going for these days? Got a friend who has inquired but sellers seem to want north of $6K...geez.

6K for a top notch restored machine is a fair price. It's all in the quality of the restoration.
81D complete but not working or restored will bring 2.5K easy. Takes time/money and knowledge to restore correctly.
Good luck on your search. Referrals and lots of pre purchase pictures will be your friend :-)

Just got one for $900, but that's from someone who didn't have a clue what they had. If you hunt around and you will have to do it daily, almost obsessively, one should come up around $1500. You'll have to jump on it immediately. I missed one a month ago that went for a grand. There are still sellers out there who don't do their homework. I plan on flipping this one for at least double to help fund some of my other projects.

Here's one that is for sale in the LA area, starting bid of $1800. No bids yet, 2 days in.

$1800 w/missing coin mech
$400 coin mech
$4000 for restoration
$800 shipping (to and from restorer)

That's $7K if you don't have a local restorer. Seems cheaper to buy fully restored 81D.
