Title: Possible Cav 51 Restoration
Post by: HowDueYouDue on May 19, 2013, 09:08:39 am
Seen this nearby on CL for a few weeks. Want to know if it looks complete and if at the price they are asking if its worth restoring? Appreciate any and all advice. Thank you

Can't see the posting or pricing but from a financial point of view........no Cav 51 is worth restoring.

Reattached the link. Seller is asking $350. Coin mech looks to be there and listed as the cooling system works.

I dont know that much about soda machines. Why is a cav 51 not worth restoring? Thank you

What Moondawg meant is the cost of the restoration will exceed the value of the machine when done. There are exceptions. If that machine is on your wish list and want a restored one to keep then yes, do it. If you do most of the restoration work yourself to cut cost then again, yes. A fully restored 51 I don't think would reach $3,000, maybe even low $2,000 and cost to restore will most likely exceed that with the cost of the machine also.

It doesn't say the cooling system works. It says it is "complete".
Is it complete inside with the vending (ammo) belt?

Sorry misread the ad; was waiting for iron man 3 to start.

First link is dead, the second one I posted and the one you posted work. It's the same machine

Not sure if the ammo belt is there.  Based on responses so far not sure if I am going to pursue it. A cav 51 isn't on my list per say, but a coke vending machine is. Being that this would be my first and the purchase price is in my budget, not sure the resto is though.  Thank you for the responses.

If it's in your budget for a $350 machine then cost of restoration whatever that cost may be I would combine those 2 cost and buy yourself a nice original machine. The Cav 51 is a single vend machine to I would pursue a nice clean original Vendo 39, VMC 33, or even another Cav 51 that is in better shape that would not need a restoration.

I agree - there are better machines out there to be had.  Why look at this beautiful machine - multiple flavors AND working for way less than restoring a single-flavor 51!

I'd be willing to bet the seller would even travel up to 100 miles from York PA to meet the buyer for delivery!  If you are looking in the Poconos, you aren't too far from York!

ok...ok... it is mine.  I really don't need 2 sliders and I'm definitely not parting with the Ideal Coke that Pat restored for me.   Shameless commercial plug over.
