Title: Value of a Unknown Model Pepsi Machine??
Post by: 66GTO on September 11, 2012, 04:35:22 pm
What model is this?  Kinda looks like a VMC 110.  Is it collectible, and what's it worth?  Seller says it works.

It's a VMC 6 case. Same size as a 110, but no coin mech. They would be set up in stores or locations where  clerk was available to take the money.

I'm not going to guess  as to what is  fair price. Looks to be redone. A litle crazy on the decals :)

The eye ball test tells me it's a nice looking machine, with that being said and not knowing anything about it as far as it working, complete, if repainted the quality of work etc, a fair starting point or any collectible round corner machine is $500.

I have never seen a 6-case in Pepsi, only coke. I have to agree about over-doing it with the decals, too busy. Just double check closely to make sure it isn't pieced together. The shelves in the 6-case coolers were different than the regular 110's, they were more like a wire rack. Maybe someone else can chime in on this one. If it's a right and solid machine, cooling I think that $500 would be a basement price.

Probably started life off as a VMC 110 all valuable parts stripped, and Built into a 6CV I have never seen a 6CV in any flavor but Coke.

Walter's has a Pepsi 6CV listed in his book!
I think it is real.
I've seen two different shelves for the 6CV....the wire rack kind and a spring-slide type like in the 56, 81 & 110. The wire shelf is by far the more common.
If complete and cooling, $500 would be a bargain IMO!

He also has a 7up Vendorlator 56 Roundtop "proto type" in his book that was later called out a fake. Ive been told by numerous people that a builder that restores alot of 81s in MN has built a few of these in the past. He has also built a few other non factory machines as well.

I don't think anybody would go out of their way to build a fake Pepsi 110 self serve, would they? I'm assuming the machine is embossed, correct? Looks it. As for the decals we don't like, take those suckers off and machine would look much better.

Unless you can get a good look in person or a whole bunch more photos, I wouldn't even consider that machine.
Could be anything. Deal of the year or major issues covered by decals.

>>I don't think anybody would go out of their way to build a fake Pepsi 110 self serve, would they?

Nobody sound of mind would, but that doesn't include the ones that aren't. :-)

Almost looks like it might be a bottle stack from that pic or could be bird droppings hard to tell.

There is a VMC 6 case listed in the Machines section here.

The normal wear on the cap catcher and a few other scratches leads me to believe it may be an original. I would certainly go by and examine it, as it would be a real prize for any Pepsi collector.

It is advertised as original/unrestored, and yes it is embossed.  From all of the discussion it sounds like it could be a good find.  I will try to go take a look at it this weekend and see where it leads. Thanks, Duane

What is he asking for it? Even if it is a true self serve Pepsi 110, and even if it is a nice original, it is still only worth so much. Rare doesn't always equal value.

He's asking $800 OBO.  My guess its a $400 to $500 machine tops.

I'd say he's in the ballpark. Obo means it could be bought for less. You said you thought it's worth $500 tops, you may or may not be right. It could be worth more. With the little information we have here we are all speculating and guessing until we have more facts but you are in a good, fun spot.

I would do as much as $800- embossed and different...

If this a fantasy VMC 6 Case Vertical machine would the only true way to tell is by pulling the door liner off and remove the insulation to check for welds around the inside embossing?

I agree with Joey easily could of been stripped down coin door etc, and made into a 6 Case.  As far as the shelves I have seen both styles.

Easily! I think you all are over-thinking this!
You would have to weld in embossing, bash in the  coin door area and level it out, figure out the cap catcher location (which happens to be correct).

And a LOT of work for what? To sell it for a lesser valued machine?
Who reproduces those hideous decals anyway?

You make a valid point regarding the coin door....

I hope the machine is bought so the mystery will be solved....

If it is real, then 500 -  800 is a good price, and in some areas, like mine, a great price.
If it is a fantasy, then 500 - 800 is a  good price, as it looks to be very well done.

either way, I like it

The same people the repop sprite boy!
Sorry S.B. fans but he creeps me out more than the phantom hand reaching out and taking a soda.

Well I was able to get the machine this weekend.  Seller was asking $800 and we ended up settling at $500.  It appears to be original, I see no evidence of repainting or reworking of the innards.  VMC Model#E110 N, Serial#100061 8 61.  Has the door light (not working), and the spring loaded shelves rather than the wire type.  Cools fine, but based on the exploded pop all over the interior, I'm guessing it may need a new thermostat.

The body has a couple minor dings, the paint has a few scrapes/scratches, typical for what I've seen for the age.  The embossed logo paint is in excellent shape.  No rust evident so far.  Let me know if anyone is interested in more info,  unfortunately the 100 KB pic resolution makes it hard to show more detail.  I included a pic of the decal on the back, only because I haven't seen this version before.  "Drink Pepsi Cola, Our Exclusive Cola Drink"

My plan at this time will be to clean it up (take off the front decals first thing), rewire, replace gaskets, fix the light, and use it for my garage machine.  It will be my pretend VMC Pepsi 81, until I'm able to find and afford the Pepsi 81, then I'll sell it.

Questions:
1. How did I do?
2. Can you decode the Serial# same as you'd do for Vendo's, or did VMC do this differently?  Would this be an August 1961 machine?
3. Two of the shelves are missing the piece of curved sheet metal that cradles the last bottle of the row.  Also, all 10 shelves are missing the long spring.  If anyone has these parts, PM me with pic/price.

The slides should be easy to find unlike the whole shelf. The slides are the same as any of the slide shelves. Be thankful all the shelves are there as that type shelf is quite uncommon. Springs can be obtained from Fun-Tronics.
Congrats on acquiring an uncommon VMC machine! Looks nice! I'd even leave the decals because the paint will most likely show a difference when removed and a noticable square will be visible.

Duane,

I think you did great at $500.00 for VMC  110.  I think that is a fair price and think they could easily sell for his original asking price!

The bottle guide bracket, and long springs are both available from Fun-Tronics!

Nice find.
The choice is yours, but the decals are authentic, and unlike Sprite Boy, seem to work well on the machine.

Glad you got it, great machine.

Tom has a good point about the Pepsi decals leaving  fresher paint exposed when they are removed, but........................those 2 on the bottom gotta' go!  :darn:

Fortunately they are mounted on a removable section of the door so that paint could be matched if necessary. I think the other decals look just fine.

Great machine at a great price!!

I too agree with the above.  Taking off the decals you will end up with a darker blue.  I took off a Fanta decal on my 56, and if I dont tell you about it, you might not notice, but once I point it out... you can't miss it.

Interesting to hear that it's original... I wonder how many other machines are out there that we don't know about?

Thanks for the kind words.  I had a " what did I just do" moment after I got this, so I feel better now.

Interesting or weird, another one is on EBay right now.  It's also a Colorado machine.  Boy, I'd be happy to get half of the 3k asking price when I'm ready to sell.

Could not past the link, but here's the ebay ID: 130776882910

I think I'll take my chances and remove the lower two vinyl decals.

Anyone have a way of getting the date off of the Serial #?  The site database with machine info lists the Vendo 110, VMC 110 and VMC 6 Case as made from 52' to 59', and the Vendo 6 Case from 48' to 56'.  From all of the site posts I've read, I'm guessing because of the lighted door and shelf type, probably a later year model?

The CO machine will not sell at that price IMO. I hate it when sellers put up ONE picture and expect people to fork over $3,000+!!
At least clearly show me what I am buying!!
I don't think $1,000 is out of line for either of these 6CV Pepsi machines, but difinately not 3K.

Couldn't agree more, I see so many machines listed at $1500 + and only one or two pics. How lazy can one be to only post one pic and ask that kind of money?

By the way, Nice snag Duane. Your machine looks as nice and for a fraction of the cost. Way to go.
