I picked up a nice, straight generic VMC 81 today. It was originally an ugly orange ( Mission soda ). I had to trade a few machines for it, but I'm closer to making my "Squirt" VMC 81. I think I'm going with bright yellow on the bottom and white on top (like some RC 81's)... And then squirt lettering In green and red and the squirt boy on the sides. Any suggestions would be welcomed.

You will have to get some better pictures up, that's almost like a teaser!

Glad to see you trade!  My favorite way to get machines!

A Squirt 81would be awesome. Are you going to emboss it or just decals?

The Squirt “Splash” logo in red with reverse Squirt text/logo would be great along the top....

making a nice yellow Squirt would look AWESOME!
Although I would go with a solid yellow theme rather than white top... but that's just me.
Either way, would love to see that when finished!

Someone here posted this pic, thought I would re post it.

That is a great looking machine.  I have to put my vote in for the solid yellow paint scheme over the 2 tone.

Does anyone know if the embossing from a squirt picnic cooler would work? Size about right? Is the metal thick enough if I found a good welder?

I like the 39 as a Squirt more than a Coke machine.  Cool idea.

As was discussed on a "fantasy machine" thread... Members here felt that the Squirt logo probably came off of a 85 slider.

What I'll do is go out to the garage in the morning, and measure my Squirt 55 slider to see how it would fit on my 39, compare it to the pics, and see what I come up with.

It would be a shame if a 55 was used for that fantasy machine, but then again, if someone got a 55 Squirt slider cheap, and just a REALLY beat up shell, then I can see how one could justify cutting it up.  Especially one who doesn't care about rareness but just the $$ to resell.
Getting the rack, coin mech and restoration adds up.

I think the embossing from a 55 slider would be too big for a Vendo 81.... It can't fit horizontally because of the bottle door...that's why I was thinking picnic cooler.

I would chop up a slider or picnic cooler in a minute and my cooler color preference is yellow bottom/white top.  Good luck!

Interesting... I forgot about the bottle door on the 81... My mind was just thinking of the 39 fantasy.
Good point!

Well, I guess a picnic cooler it is then!   happydrinkers

Would the thickness, or lack of, of metal on a picnic cooler be enough to weld onto a machine?  Just a question as I've never thought of a picnic cooler for such a job.

Sweet project, would like to see one with white on top. Not sure how thick a picnic cooler sheet metal is.

Out of curiosity, have you removed the sign...?
This type of sign is commonly used to conceal embossed logos when the machine is re-branded...

Hey, how do the "purest" police think of the 39 idea.  I have a couple of them and I would love to do a fantasy machine.  I mean, Vendo made about 80,000 of them correct?

BC

Like you Said Brian, they made over 80,000 of them and a 39 is one of the easiest machines to find if you want one... id say do whatever you like with it... the question will be what will you sacrifice to make the conversion.. or you could just remove or smooth out the embossing and decal it with whatever fantasy brand you'd like..

Could come up with some real cool machines... and not really be hurting anything... in my opinion..

As a "39 Purist",  I have no problem  with fantasy 39's, unless they are passed off as "factory made".  Personally, an RC cola 39 would be on my wish list - I think white top and yellow would be the bomb
