Hey guys, I'm looking into buying a Vendo 39 that is missing the drum, fingers, and bottle catch. But has the cooling unit and coin mechanism but I don't know if they work. The cabinet appears to be in good shape with minimal rust. I got him down to $400 but will cost $50 in gas and an 8 hour drive. Think this is a good price? Lol is it worth taking up even more space in my basement until I get to it? Which would be about a year...

If you hold off you will probably find a complete 39 for that price.

The drum will cost you $300 plus shipping. You'll have about as much in that as the whole machine. I wouldn't buy any machine anymore without the main components unless it was give away pricing.

$50 in gas for 8 hour drive? Wow, I can only drive about 3 hours on $50. I might have to hook up a trailer on my Honda if gas prices get any higher!

The price I have seen lately for Vendo 39s complete (not necessarily getting cold) is about $500.  I have passed on 2 of them that were in ok shape for that amount.  The prices are about 25% what they were 3 years ago.  Wait for a complete one.

Just my 2cents

Prices are 25% of what they were??
OR
25% less than what they were??

I think the latter....I've never seen an un-restored 39 sell for $2000.

I would let it set for a while and see if you can get him down in price. If it is a good cabinet and you can get it for around $200 to $250 then you can buy a rusty complete machine and swap the guts and get a good complete machine for less plus you may have some extra parts to sell on ebay. I have done this many times before and after selling the extra stuff on ebay had little to nothing in the machine. Just a thought. Watch ebay and find other gutted 39s that are either not selling or going cheap and show them to the seller and you may be able to get it for a lot less. You may loose it but a lot of us have found that by walking away and letting the machine set unsold with the owner for a while usually results in a much better price.
