All,

This machine is only about 30 minutes from me.  However, I don't think I'm too crazy in thinking the $4000.00 price tag is WAY high.  Realistically, what should it be?

I am reasonably certain he won't receive any bids and want to make him an offer.

It's eBay #6176179818

Thanks,

Ditto on what Kito said. I think that it's pretty but overpriced by about $1000 or a little more.

I contacted the people who own it.  It's pretty close to me.  They didn't seem to know a lot about machines at all.  My guess is they saw some restored ones on the net somewhere for big $$$ and figured to start a little lower.  I told them about the value in the Walters book and made an offer.  I am waiting to hear their response.

You guys are really something!  Try not to laugh, but I offered them $500.  I told them about the value in the book, plus I made sure to remind them any potential bidder, regardless of the price, would have to pony up the shipping cost.  This would factor into a bid.  So, I offered them the $500 based on this is no restored model, there is no inside photo of the machine, no detailed description, and the shipping thing.

No I didn't.  I just talked about the lack of interior photos.  They say it's in "mint condition".  I should have asked, but I am new at this and a little stupid.  I'll email and see what they say.

They said it ws clean inside & out and fully functional.  I've got another guy offering $425.  If lars offers $400, that may make them think.

okay, I offered them 400$. I think 500 $ are a fair price because the vmc 33 isn´t as collectable as the Vendo roundtops. Does anyone think that is a steal? '<img'>

Eric,

According to the Walters book, they only vend the small bottles.  However, he also said, "with a little tinkering to the bottle drum, they can be made to vend cans."  Any idea what tinkering?

Also, I haven't heard back from them on whether they will accept my offer.  I will email and see what's up.

Lars,

Yeah, I was just looking at it.  It's about a 5 hour drive from me, so I will probably pass on it.  That other machine has got me down, as these folks obviously want to retire on it.

Eric,

I'd like to.  Maybe I can convince the wife, but it's tough with 2 kids, aged 2.5 and 1.  Taking them isn't an option and the wife would have them even more than she does now when I am at work.

Eric,

I also read on another post by joesquid that a friend of his bought this machine last week from the same guy.  He says something doesn't smell right, so he wants to find out what's going on, as he is also interested.

I offered the VMC 33 people $600.  Yesterday, larsfor39 offered them $400 to try to push the taking of my initial offer of $500.  Should some one email them with an offer and say something like, "if you receive something over $500 you should take it due to this being a single flavor, not a super-collectable model, etc."?

Just a thought...

I have a 7 year old 3 year old and a 7month old... It would probably be a
loner trip unless you got a buddy that is a collector/junker that wouldn't mind the trip you could hit different junk/antique places along the way.

Yeah but be sure you get the low down on what is going on first..... The first deal may have few through....  Or email them... tell them you saw it up before... and was interested but want to know if it's still avaiable. That's a good price and it should go pretty fast...How is their feedback?

Eric,

The people with the 39 have 100% feedback on 8 transactions.  They've only been buyers of stuff.  I did notice there was one feedback mutually withdrawn.  Who knows?
They did sell this thing to some one about two weeks ago.  It was a "buy-it-now" thing, so it's odd the transaction didn't complete.

Something could have happened with the buyer. I have actually done this before. I sold a Cavalier 96 square top to someone on ebay and they had to back out. I ended up selling it to the second highest bidder so I let it go but you never know. It might not b ethe sellers fault. Just like the person that just bought my Cavalier 80 on ebay. He thinks he might want another one of my machines instead. I told him that if he finds something else that he wants I would let him out of the ebay deal on the Cavalier. So there are a number of reasons that it could be back on ebay. If you were to buy it just make sure that you don't pay anything untill you arrive to pick it up. If you get there and it is not as described and you no longer want it he can't leave you any negative feedback or else ebay will remove it for you. So either way I don't see how you could loose on the deal

Halehouse,

Got your PM.  Thanks!  I just finished a cold, 20 ouncer.  I raised the last swallow to the Mid-Atlantic!  I'm still holding a glimmer of hope for the VMC 33.  Maybe $600 will get it.

I would also help loading it. If I were you I would go for the Vendo 39, for the same price I think it´s the better machine.
I don´t believe that the seller will give you the VMC33 for
600$.

Well, they didn't accept $600 for the 33.  I figured I didn't have much of a shot.  The guy "was told by a Coke collector years ago it was worth $2500".  So, that's what he wants for it.  I said, quite politely, I thought I was being pretty fair based on this machine only vends 1 flavor, takes small bottles, isn't restored, etc.

I also cited the opinions of you guys and the Jeff Walters book.  I told them how you can't believe some of the listings on eBay or restoration professionals' prices (they are tying to make money and it seems are asking close to double of what's in the book).  I used the example of having a '57 Chevy.  Some one may say it's worth $40,000 and then that's what you think it's worth.  However, some one more "in the know" would say "what kind of Chevy".

It seems guys like this take a quote from some one who doesn't know the real details and set an inflated goal.  Oh well, I started with nothing and still have nothing.  I'll keep on looking.

Terry,

You are reading my mind.  I was dealing with a lady who was listing the thing for her boyfriend.  She is really nice and actually lives across the street from our former home.  Her boyfriend, and the machine, live in Baltimore.  I gave her the reasoning behind my offer and left my number.  My guess is he will just keep it.
