Title: Insulation
Post by: GotRust on February 14, 2018, 10:36:07 pm
I am in the process of restoring a Cavalier 64-C - early slant shelf.  The insulation under the leaky liner is mush.  So do I replace with the old pink fiberglass or some type of hardboard foam or go back with the pink stuff??

There was a thread on here that was 10 years old about the same subject without any results posted so I didn't post there.  That thread -

Has anyone tried anything other than the pink stuff and what was your result?  Was it better??  Would you use it again?

Thanks

I have used this stuff with great results, it's my go to insulation. The unfaced stuff is hard to find these days...

if you going through a restoration anyway,, you'll be sand blasting that tub, finding and fixing any holes, or putting in a new bottom anyway..you'll seal it up tight to prevent any leaking for the next 50 years or so hopefully so you'll want to put in fresh insulation.

as far as what kind you use is up to you and whats available.. I can't get the pink owens corning anywhere around me any longer.. I only have a menards for this type of stuff and they now carry a johns Mansfield product and it's brown in color,,, again doesn't matter, but as already state, don't put in faced insulation, use unfaced..

good luck

I just buy faced insulation and peel the backing off.  If you find open roll they usually will mark it down 40% off.  I insulated (3 ) machines for $11.
