Title: Mountain dew machine?
Post by: loman4ec on September 17, 2004, 11:40:02 am
I was wondering if anyone has ever seen a vintage Mountain Dew machine. I have no idea when it was introduced, but was there ever any 60's machines done in it. If so does anyone happen to have any pictures of one? Thanks

I have been keeping my eye out for you but I have not seen one anywhere. Ebay or on-line or anything. I keep running into old 7-up machines though. So I decided to look up the history of Moutain Dew and came up with a good idea of what date a machine might turn up. In 1964 pepsi purchased Moutain Dew. Thus, adding it to there line up and would assume if they wanted to push it a machine would appear around that time. I know they been pushing it all over the place latey but that just leads to new machines.

Wish you luck on your search...

Thanks for looking. I restore alot af machines and my girlfriend wants a Mountain Dew machine. I don't want to make it if there never was one. I think it would look really cool with the old hillbilly logo.

You should make one. Did you see that Frostie square top
that was on eBay? That was a made up version and it was beautiful.  I don't know if there are decals out there for Mountain Dew but your right that Hillbilly would be awesome.
Some of these little square top machines have no character.
I think these guys restoring them in these fantasy brands are
doing the right thing. Go for it! There's enough Coke & Pepsi machines.... it's just paint and decals. It's not destroying a machine by cutting and welding embossed parts.

Well put. You've got my vote.   I remember seeing the Frosite, it was just awesome. Someone put a lot of thought into it.
Was that the machine where the seller had done a special request restoration for a customer, and the guy's check bounced?   :D

The only problem I see is trying to locate the mountian boy (#$@%! political correctness) decals, but a graphics shop could reproduce them if you can find a good copy to work from.
I agree with the others, I'm beginning to appreciate the 'made up' square top machines as much as a restored Coke, Pepsi, Dr. Pepper. etc..

oh yeah,  moondawg, I think you are right about the story of bounced check and the Frosty machine. Was it BITW that was offering it up for sale?

I agree. I have a vendo 56 square top that needs restored. It is just begging to be a mountain dew machine. I have a great vinyl shop that does amazing work. I will keep everyone posted. I have to wait to get a few other machines done first.

Check www.sodadecals.com I think they're with BITW
Looks like where the Frostie decals came from.
Check out the old round top ice boxes there... Cool idea too.
There was a Grapette machine on eBay a week or so ago
little square top again probably got the decals from here.
Beats the red, white and off blue Pepsi machines... not
enough kick and your right a lot of time and thought went into that Frostie machine.

Hi,
I've never seen a orginal, but anyway.
This was posted a couple years ago and is very kwel. Never heard from the orginal poster again. In case the direct link fails a search on "Dew Machine" (From the Beginning) in the post 60's forum should find the post as well.

Let me know how it goes. If I ever get some free time one of the first projects....

Best of luck!!

Thank you so much for the pic. That is even the same vendo 56 that I want to make mine with. Looks great. If that person ever reads this please let me know where you had that sign made. I have a place that will do it but that one looks great.

Here is another pic of that machine. I found it on the web. I can't decide if I like the two tone or not. I was thinking of doing mine all green with the things on the side that are on the coke machines except have it say mountain dew. What do you think. It will also be easier to paint it. well I can't get the pic to post. It says it is the wrong file type. But you all can see it at the link above.
