Well I did it.
I finally got myself a 1947 Seeeburg 147 (a.k.a. Trashcan) juke!
Actually I am buying almost 2 of them for a total of $600.
Plus they are local, so I don't have to pay for shipping.

One is complete except for some of the mini blue tile pieces on the front and the other is nearly complete, but it is all disassembled.
I figure I'll keep the complete one, and from the second one, I'll save any extra parts I want and then sell the other parts on eBay.

How many of you guys have trashcan Seeburgs?
What online resources have you found helpful, etc.
Know where I can find replacement blue mini tiles?

Talk to me about this cool lookin' jukes!

Mark -

Awesome score! Were those the two from Ebay? Not too long ago I had a Seeburg 146 (you may remember the pictures)

There are a few outfits around that have quite a few reproduction parts. Victory Glass has a good selection for the 146-147-148. Vern Tisdale has online schematics for free, Bill Butterfield in Napa, CA has a TON of parted out machines and also has some reproduction stuff available. John Durfee of Durfee Coin-op deals strictly in used parts.

A great guy to go to for Master Amplifier repair and capacitor kit's if you want to do your own re-capping is Bill Bickers of Jukebox Friday Night.

I have more places/people that I met or found while repairing my 146, let me know what you need.

If you need anything else, I'd be glad to help. I resurected my 146 from the dead. The entire mech was frozen!

Looks nice, but I'm not much of a Trashcan man.  I also get my parts from Durfee Coin Op and Victory Glass.  I have also bought things off of ebay from Bill Butterfield, but his non-ebay prices are kind of high.

Also the Chicagoland Show is coming up on April Fool's Day.

Congrats 'Kito.
I passed on a 147, one side was shattered, and at the time I didn't know anyone made repro parts for the model.
It will look great next to the phone booth!

Hey Kilroy,
Everytime I see your ID, it makes me think that you have a clone living in Minneapolis.
I say this because there is a cool shop here called "Kilroy's Classic Malt Shop" that sells old soda machines, jukes, popcorn machines and every other cool old diner, etc. stuff.
I prefer to find mine out in the real world for a fraction of the price, rather than buying them there, but it is a cool place to walk through and wish I had all their stuff.
Check out their website:

Kito -

Have made the long trek up there on a couple of occasions and he has some awesome bits
but not quite on the scale of your place round the corner. He was one of the first to jump on the jukebox
wagon. Very nice bloke.

Thanks for looking for me..And good luck with that juke of yours. Does it still have the original 78 mech or has it been replaced with a 45 player??

Dave,
I always keep my eyes open for stuff for you.
Has the original 78 unit (complete with the individual plates that the records lay on and then are pushed or slid from their slots onto the turntable). The second juke (disassembled) also as the 78 unit.

I was also happy to see that the complete one still has the coin mech in it since I heard that many have been removed as people changed them to free-play. Also has the back door which I have heard is often missing on these.

Lucky Man... There are sites that sell repro 78's too.
What sort of music are you going to put on there???
It crys out for early R & B... Big Joe, Ruth Brown screaming out.

I don't know. I will have to educate myself on what is available on 78's. I'm currently a little ignorant in that area.
I have only had jukes with 45's until now.

'Kito - Do you have a manual yet for your Trashcan's? If not I have a manual that isn't doing anything right now. It's one of the best manuals that I have purchased. It was wonderfully reproduced and has the full page fold outs and full schematics and troubleshooting sections as well as parts lists for the 146-147-148.

On the subject of old TV's....I tinker with just about anything old that either takes coins or has vacuum tubes! While in the Navy I had extensive experience with Sonar Display Groups (CRT). So, I have some knowledge of TV's. As long as the Picture Tube is good it should be repairable.

The selector mech on the Trashcan is really neat. The records sit on top of the round discs that sit in the record tray. once the selection has been made from the keyboard a small coil energizes and a numbered selector pin in the Master Selection Reciever pops up and the Selector Drum rotates around and stops at the pin that has been energized. Once it stops at the pin, the drum has little nubs on it that dissengages the coresponding record tray to allow it to slide over the turntable which in turn lifts up underneath the record tray and lifts the record and the disc into position underneath the tone arm to be played. it's a really cool set-up.

BrianB,
That would be GREAT! I don't have a manual because I never figured I'd happen upon a Trashcan juke until just yesterday when I did.  '<img'>

I'd love to borrow it.
It would be very helpful.

I agree that the way that it selects and plays the records is very cool.

Thanks!

Hey guys,
Guess what, just today the Minneapolis Star Tribune did a story on "Kilroy's" here in Minneapolis! What a coincidence, just days after I mention the place here.

Check it out at:
http://www.startribune.com/389/story/329328.html

If you can't access it, use these:

Username:  sodafans
Password:   roundtops

My favorite quote from the owner of the place: "If I had all the money in the world, I'd still do this. Only I wouldn't sell a thing."

I think that totally describes how all of us feel too.

Enjoy!

Sounds good.  I'll have to see if I'm "flying solo" or if my wife will be coming with me.  If the wife comes, it will be a quick weekend visit with my relatives in the SE part of the state.   If I come by myself I'll have some time to play.

Ouch, my back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, I went to pick up the two Trashcan Jukeboxes at the guys house today.
I climbed into my van and we were tipping one of the huge machines into my van. I was standing up and slipped on the moving blanket and my feet went up and I fell about 2.5 feet flat on my back and then the huge machine fell on top of me!!! Of course my first reaction was, did I break any parts of the juke. LOL! Then I realized I was trapped under it, but luckily the seller tipped it up to get me out.  But oooooooh my back has been hurting badly ever since.

But besides that, I had a great day today. Brought the two Trashcan jukes to storage, then picked up my Vendo 63 and brought it there and then had great luck on eBay late tonight.

See my new threads:

Great night for me on eBay
