Title: Chicago coin-op show
Post by: BrianB on September 27, 2005, 08:47:29 pm
Just wanted to ping the group and see who all was planning on going. I know there was quite an extensive discussion about the show last fall and wanted to see if the interest was still there.

This will be my first time and I'm pretty stoked about it. I've never been to ANY coin-op show before, so, this should be pretty cool.

Cash is tight this time around, not to mention room for another machine (hmmm, time to sell the living room set?)

For all going, definately keep us posted on the sights and impressions. I so need a reason to actually attend a future show

I'll be going - have to pick up more Mt. Dew in glass!  :drinking:
Not sure if I'll go on Saturday or Sunday.

Remember this Josh- The airport is right next to the convention center.  You and Markito (and isn't vend_dr close too) can rent a plane, fly it in for the day and hop over the fence to the convention center parking lot! :p

From experience!... Wear gloves and a cap... Heck! and a pair of coveralls!!! for the early Thursday morning scramble....
I about froze to death the first time.....
It's fun though.... there was all sorts of stuff... payphones, barber poles, traffic lights, RR crossing signs, a full mount Buffalo, old movie cameras from Hollywood, Backdrop paintings
and of course Jukes, Arcades, Soda machines..... Course that was about four years ago....
But you just never know!

Hi Guys

Have you noticed this machine currently on Ebay

Sweet Machine

I contacted the seller and he is prepared to ship ot to me in the UK. But like
anything its probably going to work out as expensive to get it as it would to bid. So likely not to have a nibble.

So, if any of you are interested let me know.

Dave

Matt,
What style of music do you like for your 45's?

Title: Chicago coin-op show
Post by: davethebirdman on October 02, 2005, 07:25:19 am
Matt

I used to collect 45's from Camden Market on Sundays. There are also a couple of specialist record shops in Central London and if you are prepared to get on the train and venfture out to the Suburbs the largest record shop in the world (again apparently) is in Croydon. Its only about 30 minuyes outside London and easy to get to. Can't remember the name of the place at the moment. So mething like Beanos or Beannies. Will get the web address for you when I can.

When I have a minute I''ll sit down and give you details or all the places I have used over the last six or seven years for 45's for my jukes. Like Kito says I think it depends on what music you like.

I am going to try to be there. I am not sure yet. I mostly want to go for the outside swap meet trading but I hear that it is only on friday and is $50 to get to on friday. Money is tight so I have to decide if I want to go to the show or paint my Ideal 35.   :(

Title: Chicago coin-op show
Post by: Eric on October 24, 2005, 01:55:23 pm
I think the outdoor swap meet is EARLY Thursay morning and FREE...the dealers spend friday setting up... and there is suposed to be NO selling outside Friday... then Saturday it's only
like $8 a piece.... but yeah Friday is crazy money to get in... Thursday morning from what I remember is the best.....  But anyone know for sure as it's been a couple years since
I've gone and I don't want to road trip Wed, night to find no outdoor swapping Thurs.

Josh not saying you'll find anything for sure... but you might find parts for your 35
I remember folks with just a pickup truck with an Ideal Mission Orange slider, gas pump
and a few picnic coolers just backed in a parking spot..... There's people with
lots of stuff for the enitre show and some just pull in with a few things for just the outside
swap meet and are gone that night!.....

Ok, I remember the best unrestored machines were at the "pig barns" at Kane county fairgrounds about 10 miles just outside of St Charles.
This was held 3 days prior to Chicagoland show on Wed. Thurs and Fri. although most vendors spent Friday packing up and moving to the bigger event.  I arrived 7:00 am Wed and felt like the last one to arrive. Place was like a beehive. Large rental trucks pulling in and people swarming as the guy would lift the rollup door.
Have not been there for several years so you may want to check and see if this event is still tradition

I've always heard about the fair ground... never been but heard lots of good
things about it... Just seems everything is drying up over the past 4 years
Not near the stuff I saw 10 years ago...wow.....

Post by: Eric on October 24, 2005, 03:04:02 pm
Ok... me again... I just called to clear it and yeah they've changed it... It use to be
on Thursday...FREE... Then Friday $50 to go inside early while dealers sat up....now
you have to pay like Josh was told $50!!! to walk around......so I'm gonna call and find
out where this camp ground thing is and try and hit it! Since I've already got the time off...

So I guess we that are going can meet sometime Saturday?...

I'll be there Saturday - with the Mrs. and a few friends (and your bottles Eric).

They used to have part of the show across the street (could walk or take a bus).  That's where I found most of my bargains.
