I have looked back through the posts...and still have a question about the cooling system for an Ideal 55.  JohnnieG your drawings are a big help...should have looked before I scratched a hole in my head this afternoon trying to get the tank out.

My question is:  The cooling lines were soldered in multiple places on the sides of the tank (which is why I could not get the tank out and subsequently scratched the hole trying to figure out why), is this normal and should I also do this when I re install?
Thanks for any advice.

Most all compressors are soldered in place. Some of the slider models, the lower refrigeration unit has flared fittings the unscrew. After that, the unit will slide out for service.

I assume when I put it back, I should re-solder it back to the walls of the tank?

Also, I need to get up with you regarding the system out of the WD 20 I sent down to you.

Thanks,
Jeff

The copper lines are not soldered to the walls of the liner. I'm sure you're familliar with that black tar that's on the lines, (and everywhere else by now), thats all that holds the copper line to the liner.
I'm not sure it is necessary to reuse it as new thick insulation should hold the lines firmly against the liner

Thanks Glen,
As mentioned, I was suprised to find this set up as well.  I had to use a torch to loosen the solder in 4 places on each side.  I was trying to figure out how to solder them back without making the powder coat flake off the tank from the heating on the re-install if it was required.  I will take your word (and others) that the insulation will hold the coils close enough.

Thanks,
jeff

I'm sorry, I mis read your post about the soldered lines and the liner. I thought you were speaking of soldered compressor lines. You could also fashion small, u shape brackets and JB weld them to sides of the tank. Use either the regular or the quick weld. Both will hold fine!
