Title: Vendo 110 / new wiring harness / diagram needed
Post by: Vendo Guy on June 05, 2003, 12:24:46 pm
Does anyone have a diagram for the wiring harness for a Vendo 110??  I purchased the harness, but it did not come with a diagram.  My major concern area is the junction box for the compressor...lots of terminals to choose from!!

Does 120v flow thru all the wires of the harness??  (i.e. the wire on the harness that runs to the thermostat??)

Also...any tips on connections to check voltage / amps to insure correct wiring would be appreciated!!

Thanks,
SW

Who sold you a wiring harness without directions...?

Is there a tag on the refrigeration unit? If so, what model is it...?  VK-1, VK-7, VT-1, VT-7, VT-17...  Or something else...

Perhaps you could take a photo and post it so we can see the refrigeration unit...

This way we'll be able to assist you better should you have something other than what I've listed...

I could give you a generic schematic but prefer to see what you have before I go that route.

Here is a picture....

I could not find a model number...where is it usually located??

Thanks,

If you look at the junction box on the compressor, there are only two terminals you need, they have screws, one on top and one below. Your lower fan motor attatches to these. Also add a two prong plug onto wire long enough to reach your terminal block location, and attatch to the same two terminals. (an old black appliance cord works well here)
So this plugs into the new block, the power cord leads to the wall, and the only other wire on the block comes off the side and is to be used only for the thermostat. When the thermosat is cold enought it switches off, and cuts power to the compressor and fan.
You will need constant power for the upper fan motor and door light. Two terminals are provided for these inside the terminal block.

Perhaps this will shed a little light on the subject...
Remember, this is generic and I didn't have one of the after-market terminal blocks to reference.
I'm also not sure but I didn't see a door switch for the evaporator fan so this isn't on the schematic but easy to wire to should you need it... This also applies to a light switch...

Thanks for the info!!!  I'm going to attempt to dig into it this weekend.  I'm sure I'll be coming up with more questions....

Also note that the light switch is a "push to start" type         ( there is no F2 starter (little silver can) on the earlier models)
you push & hold it till the tube glows then release it just an FYI :)

I pulled the entire refrigeration unit out last night.  In comparing it to my restored V110, it looks like I am missing the Condensor Fan and bracket (see picture above)....am I correct??  If I do, is Funtronics the best place to buy them from??  Which part numbers do I need??

Also, I tested the Evaporator Fan directly and it works fine.  But when connected thru the wiring harness, it would not turn on....could it have anything to do with the thermostat??  (How does the thermostat work...isn't it basically a switch??  Can I wire nut the two wires going into the thermostat to each other?? (Would that bypass the thermostat??)....will that let me determine if the thermostat is bad??)

Thanks Again,
Shawn

I NEED SOME MORE HELP!!!

I am attaching a picture of the junction wiring box on my Vendo 110 compressor.  I know that I need to connect both the Compressor power cable and the Condensor Fan power cable to it.....but I am not 100% sure of WHERE to make those connections.

Also, I am not sure if anyone can look at the picture and let me know if there are any wires/connections missing.

Thanks,
Shawn

Sure here you go! (You know you could chuck all of this '50's technology for a soild state 3-in-1 starter/overload unit) just a thought in case the relays bad...JohnieG

johnieG....THANKS A MILLION!!

Can you give me quick run down of the connections??  I have to connect the Compressor power cord (1 hot & 1 neutral), and the Condensor power cord (1 hot & 1 neutral).  (Do I take both of these neutrals and wire nut them to the black wire with the eyelet you labeled "Line Neutral and Cond. fan neutral" ??)

That leaves me with the HOT wires for each left.  It looks like the Condensor fan Hot wire gets connected to that tab...correct??  Anything else get connected to that tab??
(You also make reference to the thermostat Line Hot on the diagram.... do I need to connect a thermostat wire there??)

That leaves me with the Compressor HOT wire....where does that go??

Also, tell me more about the "solid state 3-in-1 starter/overload unit"....where can I buy one??....how much do they run??...is the change over complicated??

Thanks Again,
Shawn

You can get a 3-in-1 at Grainger supply, or almost any HVAC supplier like APPCO here in Michigan, check your local phone book, they run around $20.00 (aprox.) & it will simplify your wiring alot! here's how to hook it up, the one you get may be different, it comes with instructions too... JohnieG

Thanks for the info on the 3 in 1.....

I am going to try to get it going with what I have....can you get back to me on the questions I left on my previous post??

JohnieG,

I got everything wired last night.  It seems to be working correctly.  The Condensor Fan shuts off if I turn the thermostat off, and the Evaporator fan runs all the time.

Are there any other tests I should perform to check anything??

It may need freon...it doesn't seem to be getting cold.  There is some type of valve on one of the tubes for the Compressor...is this where I would add freon??  What kind of freon do you recommend??

Thanks Again,
Shawn

Alwright! but it's not getting cold you say? Hmm... are you sure the compressors running? fell the side of the compressors housing is it running for sure?  the valve you see is probably an old "clamp-on" service valve used at one time by someone to check/recharge the system, the problem is they almost always leak!  :(  , the proper coolant for your unit is (was) R12 however you'll have to find a service guy who still has a stash of it, as it's no longer sold in the USA, there are substitutes that are direct replacements, such as R409, R414A/B (Hotshot is one brand name) that won't require a new compressor assuming yours is in good running condition, I would suggest that the system be service with the old R12 (if anny remains) be recovered by a service tech. & the "clamp-on" valve be removed & a new service port soldered/braised onto the line, & the system, evacuated & recharged with the new refrigerant of choice, have you thought of giving Eric of Global Compressors a call?, he's a real pro & does a top notch job, but first double check your compressor & if it's really running

When you say "feel the side"....what am I "feeling" for??  Cold??  Vibration??

Also, the service valve does not appear to be a "clamp-on" device...how do I tell??

Thanks,
Shawn

Shawn,

You'll feel a slight vibration and warming over a little time to know the compressor is running...

As far as the service valve is concerned, clamp-on valves wrap around the tubing whereas soldered-in valves are usually a "T" shape and smaller in size.  Hope this helps a little; I wish I had photos of each style for display here...
