Title: Vendo 44 Canadian Coin Mech - Quarters Stick?
Post by: wmactor on November 04, 2015, 02:48:15 pm
Hi,

I bought a Canadian Vendo 44 a couple of weeks ago, and am working through cleaning it up and getting it working.  I have the coin mech working OK with nickels and dimes (well, most of the time with dimes....), but if a quarter is inserted it sticks in the mechanism and will not release by moving the handle to reject coins.  The quarter hangs up on two pins just under the coin chute, and I have to open the scavenger plate manually and knock the quarter out.  Is there something missing on this slug rejector - or should the coin slot have a block in it to prevent quarters from being entered in the first place?  I have attached a couple of pictures showing the coin mech and a 'stuck' quarter.

Regards,  Wayne

Send it to Tom Barnes. He will have it working just the way it should everytime you drop a coin.

Hi Wayne,
Well, nickels and dimes work well because it is a nickel/dime mech. Both US coins and Canadian coins work on that model mech.

The 44 could have 4 different types of mechs installed, one of which gives change. So the bezel is made to accomodate the quarter size for that mech.

You can modify the coin entry to limit coin size if you want, but I'd just not have quarters available. Your instructional decal should say "Insert Two Nickels Or One Dime". Quarters getting stuck is a design flaw obviously.

Thanks for the information!

One more question - is there a manual available for the Canadian coin mech ? - I'd be interested in learning more about its operation.

Regards,

Wayne

Not that I am aware of.
It is fairly simple and similar in operation to other small door mechs. Can be set for 5c, 10c (2N or 1D), 15c or I think 20c (2D) with the right parts.
