Here is a pic. Someone said they only made a few of these because of the complaints they got. They said this was made back when segregation was going on

From the information I have heard some were used for segregation but they were actually meant to be used at gas stations. You could put on machine in between gas pumps and vend drinks from both sides.

Interesting piece of information ! Only heard about this machine being used for segregation purposes. Glad to hear it was actually meant to be used for gas stations.

I can't believe they would manufacture a machine with that (segregation) intent. Josh's scenario seems more logical, but I don't remember electrical outlets next to gas pumps. That would be a major fire/explosion waiting to happen! What is he asking for the machine? Looks to be in decent shape - does it cool/vend? Is it complete?

I can't see the fire hazard being any more than having lights inside the pumps to illuminate front and globes. There has to be power at the pump or the lights and the pumps wouldn't work. There were also commonly light poles on the pump island so that could easily been the power supply.

My Father had one a long time ago. It was screened "blacks only" on one side and "White's Only" on the other. The guy my Dad sold it to sold it to Whoopi Goldberg for her collection of slavery and segregation items.

I heard that the idea originated for volume reasons. Gas stations didn't really need this large of a machine, but schools and factories did! U see the larger the machine..the fewer times it needed o be re-stocked. Max. profits were at lunch hour....... the proposed C-102 would vend twice the number of cokes in peak times, from 12:00 to 1:00. So in the south, people lined up on each side of this machine... were the perfect opportunity for segregation.

He wants $9000 .It is complete but the fan on comppressor doesn't work. I seen one on ebay about a year and a half ago that did not meet the reserve and i think it was around 15,000. That one said colored on one side and whites on the other I think.

I don't think an unrestored C102 with cooling problems is worth $9K? what do you all think?

I was at an auction the other week, and a complete original 102 sold for $4,000.00. It was in really good original condition. It was just missing one of the motors. So I think the 9K is a little high. Just my take on it.

I was at an auction the other week, and a complete original 102 sold for $4,000.00. That is more in line with what I was thinking. It has a unique cool factor, but is not as functional as an 81 because it will only vend small bottles.

not worth the money, it should go for no more the 5000 in this market, i know of one that just sold in CA, restored very nice and it only brought 10,000, It cost to rebuild compressor almost 1000.00 with shipping on this machine.
