I am having my Vendo 81 redone, but I am not sure what the original color of the plate that holds the compressor and condensor was ...I have seen black, silver and a pinkish color. Which one is "more" accurate than the others? help

Im not sure what is correct for a V-81 but all of the post 1960's vendos I have seen have been silver so I paint them hammertone silver. I like the way it looks.

Most VMC's I've seen have the pinkish plate and most Westinghouse and Vendo's have the black plate from what I've seen.
My original 81A has a black plate. What model 81 are you doing?

It's an 81d. It's black now, but it looks like it was re-painted along time ago because the copper lines are black also.

Although not original, I like to paint the baseplate and fanmotor bracket the
same color as the inside of the machine. Makes it look smaller

Well Glen show a great before and after photos that show some of the detail that you need to put into your machine .

Here is a photo of my sliders 55 compressor area, and the hammer tone dark grey
I like the darker grey.

Do what you like .

If I ever get around to doing mine, I am going to do all black hammertone. That way it will hide some imperfections too!
