OK, Here is what the wood looks like so far. I had some Oak and studs around my house from some other projects I did around the house, so I decided to use those. I was going to use some type of plastic wood or Trex, but there are parts you actually end up seeing around the tub and door. I didn't know what it would look like so I just went with regular wood.
I cut all the groves and notches, and started drilling some holes buy clamping the old piece to the new piece. I think they came out pretty nice. I fit them in to make sure they fit.
All I have left is the bottle door wood that will try and do later this week or weekend.
Then I was going to stain the wood and do some kind of protectant. What do you guys think? I have some Red Oak stain, and some Varnish. Or should I do some kind of deck stain...
Was the old wood protected?
BTW, this took me about 7-8 hours so far, and I think the bottle door will take another 2. So I'm thinking an average person with a table saw, router, sander, and drill, should be able to get though the wood work in about 10 hours.

Frank I'd probably go for a latex varnish or some finish that would not give off a offensive odor.With the door closed that smell gets locked up in the machine and might present a problem later.Just a thought.

Nice job on the woodwork. I think I could take twice as long and not have it come out as good. Working with wood is not my strong point. Keep us posted on the resto, I love watching this stuff!

I haven't done much on this lately, since I'm also trying to work on my Stoner Theater. Here are some pics of what the wood looks like stained, and the body after it was soda blasted. I ended up using a 25 year waterproof red stain. It was the longest stain I could find, so hopefully it lasts a long long time... I'll post the progress on the Theater later also.
