Hello everyone, I have a Vendo 81B that doesn't appear to have a light in the selection door. I was under the impression that they all had the light. Is this true or did some not have a light. If some didn't, what would I need to put one in? Thanks for the input, Bryan

The light should be on the right side, every 81 ive seen had the light. If yours doesnt you would need to find a lightbar. I had one two weeks ago but it sold.

I know this does not answer your question, BUT, in case you or others are interested: My C-72 has no provision for a lamp for the selections. I went to Lowes' and picked up a 6 foot rope light for $6. This was easily hung in a "U" shape on the inside of the seletion door, and looks great!

Thanks for the replies, and let me tell you, I feel like a dope. Sure enough, it's on the right side. I thought I looked everywhere, turns out they hid it pretty good! I am a newbie to the group by the way and am enjoying looking around the forums. There are some beautiful machines out there! Bryan

Yah, but do you know how to turn it on. Do you know where the switch is on your 81

The switch is a push button type and will be located above the door opening on the inside of the main door.

Is the button recessed or is it broken on my machine? Mine appears to have a silver circle with a hole in it right over the bottle door on the inside. Really want the light to work on my machine! Thanks, Bryan

it should be protruding out of that silver circle.. if not it's broken off and or missing.
you may have to remove the whole door, and lay it flat on a bench or two sawhorses and then start to remove the plastic door liner so that you can gain access to the bottle light doro assemble.. its not an easy or fun process as the rubbe gasket will come off as well. but it's the only way to really address the problem by removing the door liner.
We can help you through that process.. key is to lay the door on a flat stable surface. sawhorses work best so that you dont have to remove the coin door assembly and such..
Good luck

We must warn you that you will need a new door liner. Lift the gasket anywhere and you will see that the liner is cracked around almost every screwhole and will be nearly impossible to re-install. I agree the Vendo 81 is nothing without it's light, and a new liner gasket will only improve value and performance.

Thank you for the replies! Yes, the liner is cracked near the gasket, and the gasket hardened. Who can I get the best quality parts from? This machine is such a nice original, I hesitate to replace anything. I want to make sure I can get the stickers etc. for the liner, even though I like the aged, original look of the originals. But, I sure want that light on! Any further information would be much appreciated. Thanks everyone!

Soda Jerk Works carries both the gasket and the door liner. You can find thier site by clicking on the advertisement banner at the bottom or top of your screen. Fun-Tronics also carries both parts.

I'm going to miss Home Arcade, I used to buy the door liners there while at the Chicago show, saved me a lot of money since shipping was so much for oversized packages. But I guess that's the way it goes.

Harrison,
I agree, that does stink. It's always nice to have something relatively local or at least on the way home from a place that you frequent.
I was thinking that maybe sometime we should swing over to the new Fun-tronics location in Illinois once they get established and settled in. I just took a look at a map and it looks like it's only about 120 miles west of us.

Does anyone make a metal door liner for the Vendo 81? I know it wouldn't be original, but I only want to replace this kind of item once.

I would imagine that if you called Janet at Fun-Tronics before the show, they would bring them to the show for you (if they are going?)

I bought out a guy who retired from restorations. Before replacement door liners were ever reproduced in plastic, he found a sheet metal shop to make him a bunch of these. This was the only one he had left.
