I just bought this today and couldn't help myelf. I hopefully got a fair deal. I paid 1000 for it. It is all original with minor dents that can easily be pushed out. It even still cools which is great. I am going to try to keep the original paint and just try to buff it. I will replace all seals, insulation, paint the liner etc. I am going to have many questions so please be patient. Im gonna try to post some pics as well.

Resized down to 72 dpi with dimension at 800x600 or less should work well.
Each image has a 100kb limit

Congrats on your new purchase ! ! !

What matters here is do you like it! if so then that is what matters... We've all overspent on items that we really wanted.. .it's a live and learn lesson. In my opionion, I think 1000 was a little high, occassionally you can find a Vendo 39 for less money, condition and location are everything, so if your happy with all that, then congrats!

are you going to restore it or just get it cleaned up and running?

I am going to restore it to my best ability. Im going to try to buff it and see what the paint does to keep it original. If it doesnt come out great, I am going to have it painted. I a going to replace all wires, insulation, trim pieces etc to make it nice, and paint th liner and rack.

If you are wanting to go original your machine was originally all red. It was probably repainted by coke in the late 50's. You can tell by the chrome that separates the red and white. Original two tone machines had stainless trim and yours is tape. It is also an earlier model with the embossed rib along the bottom and coin door which would have been an all red machine. Personally I prefer the two tone machines. Nice 39!

Wow great observation! I might keep it all red, I am not sure. I did see where the liner was stamped 1950 actually. That tape looks cheap!! How do I paint/restore the botte door? What was done originally?

I think if you are going to keep the machine all red is the way to go... If its to sell
red & white would increase the interest..

I beg to differ, in the last 6 months Ive built 3 39s all 3 red, two have been sold already, a good friend of mine has a two tone 39 and its been up for sale for over a year!!! It seems most of my customers are wanting them original.

In my part of the country, they favor red & white.
Just goes to show there are no set restoration rules.

I speak from a good few thousand miles away... Its very rare for a European dealer to have a solid red machine for sale.

When I have asked them why they always say its because the red and white sell so much easier...

Like Glen said it must be a regional thing...

I've only ever sold one V39 and (going against all I've just said) that was solid red....
I guess its like we always say "do what suits you..."

My opinion changes from machine to machine. I really prefer red and white for a V81 but I like solid red for the V39's and V80's. If you plan to keep the machine I would say not to worry about what is correct and go with what  you like.

I myself like machines as they came off the Vendo factory assembly line...
No water fountain
No decals
and painted as they would have been - either all red for pre-1956 machines or red/white for post 1955 machines.

But I am not restoring machines for resale either...If I were, I would have to agree that the red/white paint scheme seems to be more popular with most people.

I'm with collecture on this one.  All (or as close to all) original.

Being a native Detroiter--it kills me to see someone ruin a perfectly good classic car by modifying it and adding things to it that were not even available when the car was made.

Just my two cents!  drinking

If for personal, do what you like, if for resale do what the public wants..
I've sold more red and white Vendo 81's than all Red Vendo 81's so I guess the public up around me likes the two toned look,, original or not.

just do what YOU like! your the one who will look at it /use daily.
