Hi guys, first time poster here.
Does anybody know if there is a
manual on how to restore a Cavalier
72? I am just digging into this project
and it would be great if there was a step
by step procedure (with pictures) on how
to disassembel the machine.

Thanks........Sully

There is no manual that I know of... but there are some good references, tips and stories on this site. Best thing to do is take pictures of everything as you go for reference on where it all goes when you reassemble it.
But basically, if yoru looking at a complete restoration, just take everytying apart and label parts, screws and small parts.. good to use a plastic baggies.
Good luck and ask questions under restorations and we'll all help you along!

Thanks for the reply Sign Guy.
Somebody (who knows what they are doing)
should really look into doing a restoration manual
or DVD on some of these more popular machines.
That being said I am in the process of tearing down
the machine. I have removed all the screws for the
inside galvanized liner and the only thing still holding
it is the door latch. I have removed the roll pin on the
inside but it is still attached. It looks like there is also a
pin on the outside handle. I guess my question is
how do I remove the latch handle so I can remove the
galvanized panel?

Thanks....Sully
PS I like signs and gas pumps too.

I am in the finishing stage of restoring a 72 so I hope I can be of some help.
There is another roll pin in the handle and it can be stubborn. Using a 1/8 "punch,
try and drive it through. If that doesn't work you can still get the inner liner off with
the handle in place and then work the complete handle and latch assembly off the
main door. This way you can work on removing the pin with the handle clamped in
a vice. The roll pin is pretty hard steel so you won't be able to drill it.
In my case, I ended up cutting the latch right off the handle and drilling out
the excess material. Your building supply store will have that exact 3/8" dia rod stock
so you can make a new latch. Just cut the length you need and notch it where you
want your 90 degree bend. Bend it on the vise and drill 2 new holes where needed.
I have restored several of these so feel free to call me direct if you need more
