Well, I saw this one in Craigs list/Detroit & I got curious and took a little road trip to have a look-see, Yep, it's a VMC 340-A in the flesh, and yes it's big! (more deep than wide though) runs, 99% completed minus the sold-out/correct change lenses, & the carrier switch & the coin slot bezel...as you can see, it had a water fountian mounted on the side at one time & the water coil fittings are still visable, the signs in good shape, as is the textured trim panel, and yes, it's embossed on the front. it's solid & rust free, and straight too! and it need a coinmech, but it's not like I don't have a few of thoses floating about the shop.  tounge

You don't see too many of these models pop up around here, and even so, they aren't very popular due to the size of the beasts, but in their day, they were right at home in local factories serving up bottles of Coke.

I'm working on a part trade for a smaller squaretop that will be more practical for the owners basement plans!

Nice looking machine.  The big beasts need to be loved as well.  I have been half-interested in that big ole Pepsi machine that keeps popping up on ebay.  Just don't know what I would do with something so big!

I said the same thing when someone gave me this big embossed Westinghouse.

But, after I set it in front of the shop.......more drivers started hitting their brakes
and turning around to come back into the store.  It's too big for home use, so no one has
ever tried to steal it in over 10 years sitting on the boulevard.
Great advertising, yet no sign permit needed as it is not a sign, it's just an old
Coke machine.
I think antique stores would benefit most from large embossed round corner machines.

Moondawg,

Shoot, talk about trucks putting on the brakes, your shop stopped me in my tracks.  I had to take a closer look.  Very classy shop!!  The machine looks great outside.

My friend has a Vendo (I think) that is huge, bigger depth than width.  It was that machine with the unusual crank handle and the yellow lettering "Serve yourself."  I tried to find it but I couldn't.  I like the old set up better.  the machines were more set up by their age.

Jim, just an idea.  I like it when the machines were listed by age instead of by model numbers.  Maybe you could have a link for machines by model number and one for the year they were produced.

Here is a link to my favorite game web site.

http://www.marvin3m.com/bowl/index.htm

Check out how Clay has the bowlers listed alphabetically and by the year.  Just a suggestion.

Larry

I found it!  It was VMC 139!!
