I've been looking for some new lights to put over my bar in my Basement... I have an original 1930's Coke Milk Globe Fixture but didn't want to risk hanging that up... SO I found these matching 1930's-1940's milk globes that match pretty close to the original at an antiques store recently. I had my buddy make up some Coke Graphics for me and placed logo on all four sides in Red, and some Green Pin Striping around the top like the original. Mounted with some Brass fixtures and 40 watt bulbs and TADA... Turned out pretty cool if I don't say so myself! What ya think... Got about $20.00 bucks into the set!....

They look great! Well done!
You should look into getting the frosted cabinet glass etched. I think that would look cool - IMHO!

Now how could the Coke police do anything to you... How would you know they are not original? Nothing says you have to say who created it.. you found them that way... Am I missing something?

Your probably right... but in my auction description I would want to be accurate and not misleading to the potential buyer... It's just about being honest... and if everyone would just be honest and not try to mislead people with descriptions and such... what a better world it would be... OK off my soapbox... Who wants to buy a set!???

According to what the CC police told me, he can make as many Coca Cola globes, trashcans or whatever..............."for personal use only"
But when that item is offered for sale is when they get greedy and want a (BIG) piece of the proceeds, presented in the form of a $10K lawsuit!

Ok, just to get this straight... they want a peice of the action, which I can understand, on globes, trashcans, etc... but when someone sells a restored Coke Machine, and obviously using the logos which are already embossed onto the machine, are they expecting a piece of the action here too? Maybe it's a case by case nature? just is a bit confusing...

No, when buying decals from Funtronics you must sign a promise that these decals will be used in the restoration of Coca Cola machines and nothing else.

so it's basically if a new logo is created is when the problem exists... as they don't have a problem with us restoring and old Coke machine and reselling it? (at least not yet) and hopefully never...

This post should be tied in with the topic of the guy who scored over $700.00 for a $100.00 gumball machine because he applied CC decals ALL OVER IT! Coca Cola is hopefully trying to keep fake items from contaminating our original collectibles pool, protecting their investments as well as ours. If not for the CC police, we would start seeing fake porcelin signs, cardboards and anything else in Petretti's book of value reproduced. I'm on their side I guess!

John,
Great job on the Globes ! ! ! I'm not a lawyer, nor would I want to be, but I would think anything you do in regards to reproducing a "look-a-like" that is not for financial gains can be considered acceptable... Once you begin to seek money, then there is a problem with those who own registered trademarks etc...
All this bring to Pat's recent calendar project. If Pat is going to produce another calendar for 2009, I would be interested to hear what others think about including photographs of old country-side stores/buildings that have old soda machines/coolers in the photo as long as the machine/cooler isn't the primary focus in the picture. By this I mean, don't take a photo of just the soda machine/cooler but frame the photo as if you are taking a scenic picture of the front of the old building or other area that may contain a soda machine/cooler or two...
This concept may give a us a little more lead-way to include CC machines and encourage those that travel to get some great country-side photos that can be incorporated into the calendar... After all, it is the hunt that captivates us and envisioning this with photos of country road finds is, well, all inspiring...

Glen I agree... we don't need a flood of fake signs hitting us like it has in the Gas/oil Collectors world... As long as people just do the right thing... we'll all be good!
Pat, I found the globes at an antique store... I've been looking for more , just been hard to find... there are several styles ,but I was looking for quite some time to find some that closely matched the original and got lucky... I can keep my eye open if i run into more...

I really like Jims suggestion, old country store photo's show so much more than simply a restored machine. Signs, door push, screen doors, gas pumps, antique cars etc. In addition to present day pictures, there must be thousands of file photo's in books or on the internet. It would be interesting for members to hunt for these and submit them all to Pat, then he picks the 12 best for the next calendar.

You know that sound all good and everything and warm and fuzzy And I like the idea But I don't want the C.C. Police coming down on me for that , Jim and talked a little bit about doing this maybe if Jim does a little photo shop on the photo's with the C.C. machine in it I would feel a little bit better, You could also do a staged photo also (example Williamston MI has a old train depot that I will take one of my machine and have a friend bring his restored 58 Chevy down there and set up and snap a few photo's ) Know that what I would do for a stage photo Just something to kick around Glen did you still want a calendar ?? Pat

Paypal sent! Coca Cola signs or machines in the background ain't gonna rob CC of any potential earnings. They would have a very very weak case in a court of law, suing for damages!

I saw a set in Home-Depot, they are called "school-house" style shades, for those of us who weren't forced to read by candle light in log cabins.

How about this then Pat... And by all means, I'm not attempting to move in on the project sales, but after you sell everyone here a calendar(or two) under the radar, I'll sell some in the SMC Vending Shop... Perhaps a percentage of sales may be in order as well... This way I'll let the heat come my way if it should... Based on the way I described taking the photos, I don't think this will present an issue...
